Abstract

The systems and computer implemented methods receive image data with reference objects and target objects in the imagery. The reference object is identified from the image data and database information associated with the reference object is obtained (e.g., the actual size of the reference object). The database information associated with the reference object can then be used to identify and/or size the target object.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method for providing search results, comprising:

providing a database of object entries each associated with a corresponding physical object, each database entry including 3D data of one or more three dimensional features of a particular physical object of the database;

receiving a search request from a search request user, the search request including image data of a physical object or 3D data generated from a model of the image data of the physical object;

optionally generating 3D data from the image data if received;

comparing the 3D data received from the user or generated from the image data to the database entries to generate a search result; and

displaying the search result to the search request user.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the search result includes a list of search result items and individual items in the search result list are selectable by the search request user.

3. A computer implemented method for measuring the size of an object, comprising:

receiving image data that includes imagery of a body part of a user and imagery of a target object to be sized;

identifying in the image data the body part of the user and the target object to be sized;

providing the actual size of one or more features of the body part of the user;

obtaining the actual size of at least one feature of the target object by scaling the one or more features of the target object to the actual size of the one or more features of the body part of the user.

4. The method as in claim 3, further comprising building a 3D model of the target object from the image data and obtaining the one or more features of the target object from the 3D model of the target object.

5. The method as in claim 4, further comprising building a 3D model of the body part of the user and obtaining the one or more features of the body part from the 3D model of the body part.

6. The method as in claim 3, further comprising identifying a name, a type or a category of the target object.

7. The method as in claim 3, further comprising providing an electronic document with pricing information about the target object.

8. The method as in claim 3, further comprising providing an electronic document with a selectable link to a web document.

9. The method as in claim 3, further comprising providing an electronic document to the user that includes pricing information about the target object.

10. The method as in claim 3, wherein the body part includes a gesture that indicates a selection of the target object, the method further comprising deriving the gesture from the identified body part and using the gesture to identify the target object in the image data.

11. Computer software stored on a tangible medium and configured to perform the method of claim 3.

12. A computing system comprising RAM, ROM, and a processor, the system configured to perform the method of claim 3.

13. A computer implemented method for identifying a target object in image data, comprising:

receiving image data that includes imagery of a body part of a user and imagery of a target object, wherein the body part includes a gesture that indicates a selection of the target object;

identifying in the image data the body part of the user;

deriving the gesture from the identified body part; and

identifying in the image data the target object using at least in part the gesture.

14. The method as in claim 13, wherein identifying the target object includes building a 3D model of the target object from the image data and identifying one or more features of the target object from the 3D model of the target object.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising obtaining the actual size of at least one feature of the target object by scaling the one or more features of the target object to an actual size of one or more features of the body part of the user.

16. The method of claim 13, further comprising receiving input from the user that verifies the selection of the target object.

17. The method of claim 13, further comprising receiving input from the user that verifies the selection of the reference object.

18. The method of claim 13, further comprising displaying the image data to the user and highlighting the target object in the displayed image.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the derived gesture is a pointing gesture and the body part is pointing to the target object in the image data.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the body part is a finger pointing at the target object.
