1. A control apparatus, comprising:
- an explosion proof enclosure comprising a protective glass window;
a user-viewable display positioned within the enclosure;
an infrared transmitter positioned within the enclosure to transmit a transmitted infrared light signal out of the enclosure through the protective glass window;
an infrared receiver positioned within the enclosure to receive a reflected infrared light signal in through the protective glass window, the reflected infrared light signal comprising a reflection of the transmitted infrared light signal corresponding to a gesture from a user; and
a processing unit positioned within the enclosure to process a signal corresponding to the reflected infrared light signal and send a corresponding control signal to a control function for the apparatus.

The control apparatus further includes a processing unit positioned within the enclosure to process a signal corresponding to the reflected infrared light signal and send a corresponding control signal to a control function for the apparatus.
