Abstract

A computer-implemented method is described. The computer-implemented method is used for populating data of a graphical user interface (GUI). The computer-implemented method includes generating one or more graphical elements of one or more activities captured by a monitoring device. The monitoring device is usable by a user during the capturing. The method further includes generating a timeline including a time period over which the activities are performed. The timeline includes a chronological order of time within the time period. The method further includes generating an activity symbol for one or more of the activities performed during the time period. The activity symbol has an image that is graphically overlaid on the graphical elements of the activities.

Claims

1. A monitoring device comprising:

a position sensor that includes a motion sensor and a heart rate measurement sensor, wherein the motion sensor is configured to measure an amount of movement of the user and the heart rate measurement sensor is configured to measure a heart rate of the user;

a time measurement device to determine an amount of time during which the heart rate is measured; and

a processor coupled to the position sensor and the time measurement device, wherein the processor is configured to execute a computer readable code accessed from a memory device of the monitoring device to classify an activity performed by the user as sedentary based on the heart rate of the user during the amount of time and the movement of the user.

2. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the sedentary activity includes sleeping.

3. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to classify the activity as sedentary upon determining that the user is not walking, not running, not moving around, and not in a vehicle.

4. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the motion sensor is an accelerometer.

5. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the monitoring device is a wrist watch, or a wristband, or a bracelet.

6. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to further classify the sedentary activity as sleeping upon determining that the sedentary activity is performed for greater than a threshold amount of time.

7. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising a display screen to display graphical user interface data that includes activity levels of the sedentary activity performed by the user.

8. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising a display screen to display a time identifier for the sedentary activity, wherein the time identifier indicates the amount of time for which the sedentary activity occurred.

9. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein time measurement device is configured to determine an amount of time for a number of positions that is reached during the amount of movement of the monitoring device and that is determined by the position sensor.

10. A method comprising:

receiving a plurality of activity parameters, wherein the activity parameters are calculated when an activity is performed by a user, wherein the activity parameters include a physiological parameter of the user collected by a monitoring device with one or more sensors, wherein the monitoring device is configured to be coupled to a body of the user; and

classifying as sedentary the activity performed by the user over a period of time based on an analysis of the activity parameters.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the monitoring device is a wrist watch, or a wristband, or a bracelet.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein classifying as sedentary the activity includes determining that the user is not walking, not running, not moving around, and not in a vehicle.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising classifying the sedentary activity as sleeping upon determining that sedentary activity is performed for greater than a threshold amount of time.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the one or more sensors include a motion sensor and a heart rate measurement sensor.

15. The method of claim 10, wherein the activity parameters include an amount of movement of the user and the physiological parameter is a heart rate of the user.

16. The method of claim 10, wherein the one or more sensors include an environmental sensor and a biological sensor.

17. The method of claim 10, further comprising displaying the sedentary activity on a graphical user interface.

18. The method of claim 10, further comprising displaying a time identifier for the sedentary activity, wherein the time identifier indicates a time at which the sedentary activity occurred.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing programming instructions that cause a computer processor to perform the operations of:

receiving a plurality of activity parameters, wherein the activity parameters are calculated when an activity performed by a user, wherein the activity parameters include a physiological parameter of the user collected by a monitoring device with one or more sensors, wherein the monitoring device is configured to couple to a body of the user; and

classifying as sedentary the activity performed by the user over a period of time based on an analysis of the activity parameters.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the monitoring device is a wrist watch, or a wristband, or a bracelet.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the classifying as sedentary the activity performed by the user includes determining that the user is not walking, not running, not moving around, and not in a vehicle.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the operations further comprise classifying the sedentary activity as sleeping upon determining that the sedentary activity is performed for greater than a threshold amount of time.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the one or more sensors include a motion sensor and a heart rate measurement sensor.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the operations further comprise displaying the sedentary activity on a graphical user interface.

25. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19, wherein the operations further comprise displaying a time identifier for the sedentary activity, wherein the time identifier indicates a time at which the sedentary activity occurred.
