Abstract

Methods and devices are provided wherein feedback is included in a checksum.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

communicating between a first device and a second device,

including information by the first device in a checksum calculation, wherein the information is not communicated associated with the checksum to the second device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

using, in the first device, the information and data to be communicated to the second device for the checksum calculation;

communicating the data and the checksum to the second device;

receiving, at the second device, the data and the checksum, and

determining, at the second device, whether the checksum is correct based on the data received and further information not communicated from the first device to the second device.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising at least one of:

independently determining at least part of the information at the first device and at least part of the further information at the second device based on a predefined scheme which is applied by the first and second devices to a data communication between the first and the second device;

or

selecting at least part of the further information at the second device and communicating the at least part of further information to the first device, wherein at least part of the information corresponds to the at least part of the further information as received at the first device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the information comprises at least one of:

an identification of the first device;

a counter value generated at the first device;

a measurement range used by the first device for a measurement;

or a configuration of the first device.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising setting the counter value to a predefined value when the checksum received at the second device is determined not to be valid by the second device.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein setting the counter value to a defined value comprises sending a dedicated trigger pulse from the second device to the first device, and setting the predefined counter value in response to receiving the dedicated trigger pulse.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the dedicated trigger pulse corresponds to one of an unused identification or a trigger pulse different to any used identification or data pulse.

8. The method of claim 5, wherein setting the counter value to a defined value comprises omitting a trigger signal from the second device to the first device, and setting the counter to the predefined value in response to detecting the omission of the trigger pulse.

9. The method of claim 4, further comprising trying different counter values when the checksum received at the second device is determined not to be valid by the second device to determine a current counter value.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the second device comprises at least one of a master device or a control unit.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the first device comprises a sensor.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the first device and the second device communicate on the basis of an edge-based pulse width modulation protocol.

13. A device, comprising:

a checksum calculation entity, the checksum calculation entity being adapted to use feedback information to calculate the checksum for a data communication between the device and a further device.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the device is adapted to refrain from transmitting the feedback information to the further device.

15. The device of claim 13, wherein the device is a slave device in a bidirectional edge-based pulse width modulation system.

16. The device of claim 13, wherein the device comprises a counter, wherein the device is further adapted to set the counter to a predefined value upon receipt of a signal indicating a reset from the further device.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the signal indicating a reset comprises one of a dedicated trigger pulse or an omitted trigger pulse.

18. A device,

the device comprising a transmitter adapted to communicate based on a bidirectional edge-based pulse width modulation protocol,

the device comprising a counter,

the transmitter being adapted to inform a further device on a counter value of the counter.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein the device is a slave device.

20. The device of claim 18, wherein the counter is a rolling counter.

21. A system comprising:

a first device;

a second device;

a communication path between the first and second device, wherein the first device is adapted to use information which is not communicated to the second device by the first device in a checksum calculation.

22. A device, comprising:

a checksum verification entity to verify a checksum received together with data, the checksum verification entity being adapted to use the received data and information which the device has not received associated with the checksum via data communication to verify the checksum.

23. The device of claim 22, wherein information associated with the checksum comprises information comprised in a data frame associated with the checksum.

24. A device,

the device comprising a receiver adapted to communicate based on a bidirectional edge-based pulse width modulation protocol,

the receiver being adapted to receive information from a further device on a counter value of a counter of the further device,

the device being adapted to check if the information on the counter value matches an expected counter value.

25. A system, comprising:

a first device,

a second device, the first device and the second device being adapted to communicate based on a bidirectional edge-based pulse width modulation protocol,

the first device comprising a counter and being adapted to communicate information on a counter value of the counter to the second device.
