Abstract

A method for generating recommendations for achieving goals is described. The method includes receiving a goal for a user account. The goal is associated with an activity that is trackable via a monitoring device. The method further includes receiving tracking data associated with the monitoring device. At least part of the tracking data is associated to the activity. The method includes receiving geo-location data associated with the monitoring device. The geo-location data is correlated to the tracking data. The method includes analyzing the received tracking data and geo-location data to characterize a current performance metric for the activity and generating a recommendation for the user account. The recommendation identifies the current performance metric and a suggested action and location for increasing the current performance metric to achieve the goal.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving a goal via a user account of a user;

receiving a geo-location associated with a monitoring device, the monitoring device configured to be worn by the user;

accessing via a computer network a database of calorie information associated with food consumed by the user;

determining whether the user will achieve the goal by processing data that includes the calorie information; and

generating a recommendation that includes an activity and a location for performing the activity based on the processing of the calorie information, the goal, and the geo-location.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the user is performing an activity while at the geo-location, wherein the monitoring device includes a sensor for sensing metric data while the activity is being performed by the user, wherein the activity that is recommended is different from the activity performed by the user while at the geo-location.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a username and password from the user;

determining whether the username and password is authentic; and

providing access to the user account upon determining that the username and password is authentic.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining whether the user will achieve the goal includes determining whether the user will burn a number of calories in an amount of time.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the geo-location is collected by a computing device while the user is carrying the computing device and wearing the monitoring device, wherein the geo-location includes a latitude and a longitude, or an altitude, or a combination of the longitude, the latitude, and the altitude.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the goal is set by a processor of a server.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the goal is received from a computing device via the computer network, wherein the goal is provided to the computing device by the user via the user account and an input device.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the monitoring device includes a wristwatch, or a wristband, or a bracelet.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein a name of the food consumed by the user is provided by the user to the user account via a display device of the monitoring device.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving via the user account a number of calories burned by the user, wherein the number of calories burned by the user is measured by the monitoring device while the user is performing an activity,

wherein processing the data includes counting a number of calories to be burned by the user within a remaining time period for achieving the goal based on the calorie information, the number of calories burned by the user, and a total number of calories to be burned by the user for achieving the goal,

wherein determining whether the user will achieve the goal includes determining whether the user will burn the number of calories to be burned by the user in the remaining time period.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

accessing calories that will be burned by the user when the user will perform the activity; and

determining based on the calories that will be burned by the user that the user will achieve the goal upon performing the activity at the location.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

accessing a database to determine whether the activity is allowed to be performed at the location,

wherein generating the recommendation includes generating the recommendation upon determining that the activity is allowed to be performed at the location.

13. A method comprising:

receiving a goal via a user account of a user;

receiving activity data from a monitoring device regarding an activity performed by the user;

receiving a geo-location associated with the monitoring device;

accessing via a computer network a database to identify a number of calories consumed by the user;

determining whether the user will achieve the goal within an amount of time based on the number of calories consumed;

determining from the geo-location whether the user is within a pre-determined distance from a location; and

generating a recommendation to the user account of the location suitable for performing an activity upon determining that the user will not achieve the goal.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein receiving the activity data includes receiving a number of steps taken by the user during a day, wherein the number of steps for the day are counted by a sensor of the monitoring device while the user is performing the activity.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the geo-location includes a longitude and a latitude of the monitoring device, wherein the longitude and latitude are determined by the monitoring device by using signals communicated between the monitoring device and another device.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the monitoring device is configured to receive a food item consumed by the user via an input device of the monitoring device, wherein the number of calories consumed by the user is identified from the database for the food item consumed by the user.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the goal includes a threshold number of calories, wherein the activity data includes a number of calories burned by the user,

wherein determining whether the user will achieve the goal includes:

counting the number of calories burned by the user and the number of calories consumed by the user;

determining that the count exceeds the threshold number of calories.

18. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

accessing calories that will be burned by the user when the user will perform the recommended activity; and

determining based on the calories that will be burned by the user that the user will achieve the goal upon performing the recommended activity at the location.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the monitoring device includes a wristwatch, or a wristband, or a bracelet.

20. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

accessing a database to determine whether the recommended activity is allowed to be performed at the location,

wherein generating the recommendation is performed upon determining that the recommended activity is allowed to be performed at the location.
