Abstract

A test instrument provides suggested next operational step function to provide a user with assistance during testing. A display is provided to show the amount of a project that has been completed, for example as a percentage completed value. Individual test results may be saved to a “fix later” list, which may be later accessed to re-test items that may not have passed on initial testing.

11. A method of operating a test instrument, comprising:

providing a test functionality for testing a plurality of network cables; and

providing an option to mark a test result warranting retesting of one or more of the plurality of network cables.

12. The method of operating a test instrument according to claim 11, further comprising saving a marked test result to a list.

13. The method of operating a test instrument according to claim 12, further comprising providing the list to a user for selection of items to retest.

21. The method of operating a test instrument according to claim 11, further comprising displaying an indicator denoting which end of the one or more cables the results are pertaining to.

14. A test instrument, comprising:

a test module for providing test stimulus to and receiving and recording measurement results from a cable under test; and

a storage medium for storing a list of test results warranting retesting.

15. The test instrument according to claim 14, further comprising a fix later function operative to store a test item into the list of test results warranting retesting.

16. The test instrument according to claim 14 further comprising a display for displaying the list of test results warranting retesting.

17. The test instrument according to claim 16, further comprising selection means for enabling selection of items from the list of test results warranting retesting.

18. A method of operating a test instrument, comprising:

providing a representation of a cable under test on a display; and

providing an option to select individual connectors or events on the cable under test by selection of a portion of the representation of the cable on the display for display of test results related to said selected individual connectors or events.

19. The method of operating a test instrument according to claim 18, wherein said providing an option to select comprises displaying a representation of a position where a test result is available, and displaying test results upon said selection being made.

20. The method of operating a test instrument according to claim 19, wherein said selection is by touch screen selection of a graphical representative of a portion of the cable under test.
