Abstract

A method of managing an online support group to increase the odds that users will attain their wellness goals is disclosed. A request from a user to join a support group is received. A preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group is received. The support group is selected from a plurality of support groups based on the preference of the user and a preference of a member of the support group. Based on an acceptance by the user of an option to join the support group, the plurality of support groups is reorganized.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

at least one processor;

a module implemented by the at least one processor and configured to;

receive a request from a user to join a support group;

identify a preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group;

select the support group from a plurality of support groups based on the preference of the user and a preference of a member of the support group;

based on an acceptance by the user of an option to join the support group, reorganizing the plurality of support groups based on a criterion.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the module is further configured to:

determine a goal of the user; and

determine a goal of the member of the support group; and

wherein the preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group relates to the goal of the user and the goal of the member of the support group.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the goal of the user is a wellness goal.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the criterion is that each of the plurality of support groups has facilitation and the reorganizing includes selecting at least one member of the support group to serve as a facilitator of the support group.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the selecting of at least one member of the plurality of members of the support group to serve as the facilitator of the support group is based on a participation level of the user with respect to the plurality of support groups.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the selecting of the at least one member of the plurality of members of the support group to serve as the facilitator of the support group is further based on a success rate of members of the support group at achieving their goals.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the criterion includes preserving anonymity of each of a plurality of members of the support group.

8. A method comprising:

receiving a request from a user to join a support group;

identifying a preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group;

selecting the support group from a plurality of support groups based on the preference of the user and a preference of a member of the support group;

based on an acceptance by the user of an option to join the support group, reorganizing the plurality of support groups based on a criterion, wherein the reorganizing is performed by a processor.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

determining a goal of the user; and

determining a goal of the member of the support group; and

wherein the preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group relates to the goal of the user and the goal of the member of the support group.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the goal of the user is a wellness goal.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the criterion is that each of the plurality of support groups has facilitation and the reorganizing includes selecting at least one member of the support group to serve as a facilitator of the support group.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the selecting of the at least one member of the plurality of members of the support group to serve as the facilitator of the support group is based on a participation level of the user with respect to the plurality of support groups.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the selecting of at least one member of the plurality of members of the support group to serve as the facilitator of the support group is further based on a success rate of members of the support group at achieving their goals.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein the criterion includes preserving anonymity of each of a plurality of members of the support group.

15. A non-transitory machine readable storage medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving a request from a user to join a support group;

identifying a preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group;

selecting the support group from a plurality of support groups based on the preference of the user and a preference of a member of the support group;

based on an acceptance by the user of an option to join the support group, reorganizing the plurality of support groups based on a criterion, wherein the reorganizing is performed by a processor.

16. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 15, further comprising:

determining a goal of the user; and

determining a goal of the member of the support group; and

wherein the preference of the user with respect to a type of the support group relates to the goal of the user and the goal of the member of the support group.

17. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the goal of the user is a wellness goal.

18. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the criterion is that each of the plurality of support groups has facilitation and the reorganizing includes selecting at least one member of the support group to serve as a facilitator of the support group.

19. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the selecting of the at least one member of the plurality of members of the support group to serve as the facilitator of the support group is based on a participation level of the user with respect to the plurality of support groups.

20. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the selecting of at least one member of the plurality of members of the support group to serve as the facilitator of the support group is further based on a success rate of members of the support group at achieving their goals.
