1. An apparatus, comprising:

  • a power supply;

    an in vivo analyte sensor operatively coupled to the power supply to generate analyte sensor signals corresponding to a monitored analyte level in a biofluid when powered by the power supply;

    a memory unit operatively coupled to the in vivo analyte sensor and the power supply to store the analyte sensor signals;

    a data processing unit operatively coupled to the in vivo analyte sensor, the memory unit, and the power supply, the data processing unit generating data that correspond to the monitored analyte level and a rate of change of the monitored analyte level from the analyte sensor signals when a predetermined number of valid analyte sensor signals over a predetermined time period is available and retrieved from the memory unit; and

    a data communication unit operatively coupled to the data processing unit, the data communication unit wirelessly communicating the generated data corresponding to the monitored analyte level and the determined rate of change of the monitored analyte level to a remote location using Bluetooth®

    communication protocol.
