Abstract

A driver assistance system for a vehicle includes at least one sensor including an image sensor operable to capture image data. An image processor is operable to process captured image data to determine at least one of (i) a driving condition of the vehicle and (ii) a road condition of the road that the vehicle is traveling along. The driver assistance system, when activated and at least in part responsive to image processing of captured image data, is operable to control at least one accessory or system of the vehicle. The driver assistance system is operable to adjust at least one parameter of the control of the at least one accessory or system of the vehicle in response to (i) an identification of a particular driver and (ii) at least one preferred parameter indicative of the driver'"'"'s preference for the at least one accessory or system of the vehicle.

Claims

1. A driver assistance system of a vehicle, said driver assistance system comprising:

at least one sensor disposed at a vehicle equipped with said driver assistance system, wherein said at least one sensor comprises an image sensor;

wherein said image sensor is operable to capture image data and wherein an image processor is operable to process captured image data to determine at least one of (i) a driving condition of the equipped vehicle and (ii) a road condition of the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling along;

wherein said driver assistance system, when activated and responsive at least in part to image processing of captured image data, is operable to control at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle; and

wherein said driver assistance system is operable to adjust at least one parameter of the control of the at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle in response to (i) an identification of a particular driver of the equipped vehicle and (ii) at least one preferred parameter indicative of the particular driver'"'"'s preference for the at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle.

2. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said driver assistance system comprises an adaptive cruise control system.

3. The driver assistance system of claim 2, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises an acceleration preference of the identified driver and a deceleration preference of the identified driver.

4. The driver assistance system of claim 2, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a preferred target following distance for the adaptive cruise control system to use in establishing a distance of the equipped vehicle behind a leading vehicle ahead of the equipped vehicle.

5. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said driver assistance system comprises at least one of (i) a lane keep assist system, (ii) a lane departure warning system and (iii) a lane centering system.

6. The driver assistance system of claim 5, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a threshold level at which an alert is generated or at which a steering adjustment is made as the vehicle moves towards a lane marker or out of a lane in which the equipped vehicle is traveling.

The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a plurality of preferred parameters, and wherein said driver assistance system selects an appropriate one of said plurality of preferred parameters responsive to a driving condition of the equipped vehicle.

8. The driver assistance system of claim 7, wherein the driving condition comprises a determination of one of a daytime driving condition and a nighttime driving condition.

9. The driver assistance system of claim 7, wherein the driving condition comprises a determination of one of a dry driving condition, a rain driving condition and a snow driving condition.

10. The driver assistance system of claim 1, wherein said image sensor comprises a forward viewing image sensor viewing forward of the equipped vehicle.

11. The driver assistance system of claim 10, wherein said forward viewing image sensor is disposed at or near a windshield of the equipped vehicle and views through the windshield and forwardly in the direction of forward travel of the equipped vehicle.

The driver assistance system of claim 10, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises driver preferences in different driving conditions, and wherein said driver assistance system is operable to determine a driving condition of the equipped vehicle at least in part via image processing of captured image data.

13. A driver assistance system of a vehicle, said driver assistance system comprising:

at least one sensor disposed at a vehicle equipped with said driver assistance system, wherein said at least one sensor comprises a forward viewing image sensor disposed at or near a windshield of the equipped vehicle and viewing through the windshield and forwardly in the direction of forward travel of the equipped vehicle;

wherein said image sensor is operable to capture image data and wherein an image processor is operable to process captured image data to determine at least one of (i) a driving condition of the equipped vehicle and (ii) a road condition of the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling along;

wherein said driver assistance system comprises an adaptive cruise control system;

wherein said driver assistance system, when activated and responsive at least in part to image processing of captured image data, is operable to control at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle;

wherein said driver assistance system is operable to adjust at least one parameter of the control of the at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle in response to (i) an identification of a particular driver of the equipped vehicle and (ii) at least one preferred parameter indicative of the particular driver'"'"'s preference for the at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle; and

wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises at least one of (i) an acceleration preference of the identified driver and a deceleration preference of the identified driver and (ii) a preferred target following distance for the adaptive cruise control system to use in establishing a distance of the equipped vehicle behind a leading vehicle ahead of the equipped vehicle.

14. The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises an acceleration preference of the identified driver and a deceleration preference of the identified driver.

15. The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a preferred target following distance for the adaptive cruise control system to use in establishing a distance of the equipped vehicle behind a leading vehicle ahead of the equipped vehicle.

16. The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein said driver assistance system comprises at least one of (i) a lane keep assist system, (ii) a lane departure warning system and (iii) a lane centering system, and wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a threshold level at which an alert is generated or at which a steering adjustment is made as the vehicle moves towards a lane marker or out of a lane in which the equipped vehicle is traveling.

The driver assistance system of claim 13, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises driver preferences in different driving conditions, and wherein said driver assistance system is operable to determine a driving condition of the equipped vehicle at least in part via image processing of captured image data.

18. A driver assistance system of a vehicle, said driver assistance system comprising:

at least one sensor disposed at a vehicle equipped with said driver assistance system, wherein said at least one sensor comprises a forward viewing image sensor disposed at or near a windshield of the equipped vehicle and viewing through the windshield and forwardly in the direction of forward travel of the equipped vehicle;

wherein said image sensor is operable to capture image data and wherein an image processor is operable to process captured image data to determine at least one of (i) a driving condition of the equipped vehicle and (ii) a road condition of the road that the equipped vehicle is traveling along;

wherein said driver assistance system comprises at least one of (i) a lane keep assist system, (ii) a lane departure warning system and (iii) a lane centering system;

wherein said driver assistance system, when activated and responsive at least in part to image processing of captured image data, is operable to control at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle;

wherein said driver assistance system is operable to adjust at least one parameter of the control of the at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle in response to (i) an identification of a particular driver of the equipped vehicle and (ii) at least one preferred parameter indicative of the particular driver'"'"'s preference for the at least one accessory or system of the equipped vehicle; and

wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a threshold level at which an alert is generated or at which a steering adjustment is made as the vehicle moves towards a lane marker or out of a lane in which the equipped vehicle is traveling.

The driver assistance system of claim 18, wherein said driver assistance system comprises an adaptive cruise control system, and wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises at least one of (i) an acceleration preference of the identified driver and a deceleration preference of the identified driver and (ii) a preferred target following distance for the adaptive cruise control system to use in establishing a distance of the equipped vehicle behind a leading vehicle ahead of the equipped vehicle.

The driver assistance system of claim 18, wherein said at least one preferred parameter comprises a plurality of preferred parameters, and wherein said driver assistance system selects an appropriate one of said plurality of preferred parameters responsive to a driving condition of the equipped vehicle, and wherein the driving condition comprises a determination of one of a daytime driving condition, a nighttime driving condition, a dry driving condition, a rain driving condition and a snow driving condition.
