Abstract

An apparatus in accordance with the invention includes a gearbox assembly configured to electromechanically operate a window covering. A controller, incorporated into the window covering, is provided to control the gearbox assembly. A security device, such as a camera, motion sensor, audio sensor, proximity sensor, impact sensor, or the like, communicates with the controller and is configured to monitor security at a window associated with the window covering. Such a security sensor may, for example, monitor opening and/or closing of the window, breaking of the window, or the like. In certain embodiments, operation of the window covering is triggered in response to conditions sensed by the security device. A corresponding method is also disclosed herein.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a gearbox assembly configured to electromechanically operate a window covering;

a controller, incorporated into the window covering, to control the gearbox assembly; and

a security device communicating with the controller and configured to monitor security at a window associated with the window covering.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the security device is a camera.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the security device is a motion sensor.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the security device is an audio sensor.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the security device is a proximity sensor.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the proximity sensor is configured to detect at least one of opening and closing of the window.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the controller communicates a status of the security device to a security monitoring system.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein operation of the window covering is triggered by the security device.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the security device is an impact sensor.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the security device is mounted to a headrail of the window covering.

11. A method comprising:

electromechanically operating a window covering;

using a controller incorporated into the window covering to control operation of the window covering; and

monitoring, by the controller, security at a window associated with the window covering.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein monitoring security comprises using a security device to monitor security at the window.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the security device is a camera.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein the security device is a motion sensor.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the security device is an audio sensor.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein the security device is a proximity sensor.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising using the proximity sensor to detect at least one of opening and closing of the window.

18. The method of claim 12, further comprising communicating, by the controller, a status of the security device to a security monitoring system.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein the security device is an impact sensor.

20. The method of claim 11, further comprising triggering, by the controller, operation of the window blind based on security monitored at the window.
