Abstract

A passively re-radiating cell phone sleeve assembly capable of receiving a nested cell phone provides signal boosting capabilities. Signal boosting is enabled by use of an additional antenna, a pass-through repeater, dual antenna isolation capability and other features.

Claims

1. An assembly comprising:

a cell phone tunable to a cellular channel via a command received from a base station;

the cell phone nested within a sleeve assembly, the sleeve assembly containing a channel selective repeater;

the channel selective repeater tunable to the cellular channel via a further command received from the cell phone; and

the channel selective repeater adapted for signal exchange with the cell phone and the base station within the cellular channel.

2. A re-radiating cell phone sleeve assembly for engaging a cell phone in a nested relationship, the assembly comprising:

an enclosure having a back panel integral with a surrounding side wall and a frontal peripheral lip, the lip positioned for partially covering the engaged cell phone;

an embedded electrical circuit within a back panel of the enclosure, the circuit providing a signal boosting external antenna circuit, a signal boosting repeater, and a dual antenna isolation circuit.

3. The sleeve assembly of claim 2 wherein the signal boosting external antenna circuit has a planar multi-layer radio frequency coupling probe positioned for electromagnetic coupling with an antenna of the cell phone.

The sleeve assembly of claim 2 wherein the signal boosting repeater uses a method including receiving and storing channel information in a cell phone memory of a cell phone, tuning the cell phone to a channel designated in the channel information, transmitting said channel information from the cell phone to a channel selective repeater, adapting the repeater to pass only signals in the channel, collecting off-the-air signals at the repeater, filtering the signals to pass only signals in the channel;

and transmitting signals in the channel to the cell phone.
