Abstract

Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, methods to establish and control communication of a dedicated device such as a dedicated user equipment (UE) with dedicated nodes of a network are provided.

Claims

1. A mobility management entity (MME) to redirect a dedicated user equipment (UE) to a dedicated enhanced Node B (eNB), comprising:

a processor and memory coupled to the processor, wherein instructions in the memory configure the processor to;

receive an inactivity notification from the dedicated UE while the UE is connected to a present eNB; and

send a release command to the present eNB in response to the inactivity notification, the release command to cause the present eNB to send a connection release message to the dedicated UE, wherein the connection release message includes a carrier redirect message to redirect the dedicated UE to the dedicated eNB.

2. The mobility management entity as claimed in claim 1, wherein instructions in the memory further configure the processor to receive a power saving mode (PSM) information element from the present eNB.

3. The mobility management entity as claimed in claim 1, wherein the inactivity notification from the dedicated UE is transmitted via a radio resource control (RRC) connection setup.

4. The mobility management entity as claimed in claim 1, wherein the release command sent to the eNB includes a PSM indication as a cause for the release command.

5. An enhanced Node B (eNB) to redirect a dedicated user equipment (UE) to a dedicated enhanced Node B (eNB), comprising:

a processor and memory coupled to the processor, wherein instructions in the memory configure the processor to;

receive a message from the dedicated UE, wherein the message includes an indication of dedicated services to be used by the dedicated UE;

perform a handover decision based at least in part on the message to determine if a dedicated eNB is more suitable for the dedicated UE; and

send a radio resource control (RRC) message to the UE to indicate to handover the dedicated UE to the dedicated eNB if the dedicated eNB is more suitable for the dedicated UE.

6. The enhanced Node B as claimed in claim 5, wherein the message comprises a measurement report that indicates a type of the dedicated eNB that is available.

7. The enhanced Node B as claimed in claim 5, wherein the message comprises an indication of dedicated eNB information.

8. The enhanced Node B as claimed in claim 5, wherein instructions in the memory further configure the processor to send handover preparation information to the dedicated eNB if it is determined that the dedicated eNB is more suitable for the dedicated UE.

9. An enhanced Node B (eNB) to redirect a dedicated user equipment (UE) to a dedicated core network (CN), comprising:

a processor and memory coupled to the processor, wherein instructions in the memory configure the processor to;

receive a request by the dedicated UE to access the dedicated core network (CN) via a present radio access network (RAN); and

send a message to the dedicated UE indicating which types of services are supported by the present RAN or which types of services are not supported by the present RAN, or a combination thereof, wherein the UE connects with the present RAN or connects with another RAN based on the message and a type of serviced desired by the dedicated UE.

10. The enhanced Node B of claim 9, wherein the message comprises an access barring message such that the dedicated UE is redirected to the other RAN if a type of service desired by the dedicated UE is barred.

11. The enhanced Node B as claimed in claim 9, wherein the dedicated UE is capable of accessing the dedicated CN via the present RAN if the type of service desired the dedicated UE is supported.

12. The enhanced Node B as claimed in claim 9, wherein the message is contained within System Information Block 2 (SIB2).

13. A non-transitory medium having instructions stored thereon that, if executed, result in redirecting an enhanced node B (eNB) to connect to a dedicated mobility management entity (MME), comprising:

receiving an S1 setup message from the eNB; and

sending a setup failure message to the eNB to indicate that the eNB should be redirected to the dedicated MME.

14. The medium as claimed in claim 13, wherein the setup failure message includes a redirect to special MME information element.

15. The medium of claim 13, further comprising:

broadcasting a type of dedicated MME to which the eNB is capable of connecting;

receiving a request from a dedicated user equipment (UE) to utilize a service supported by a dedicated MME to which the eNB is capable of connecting;

connecting with the dedicated UE if the eNB is capable of connecting a dedicated MME that supports a the service requested by the dedicated UE; and

connecting to the dedicated MME to support the requested service.

16. The medium as claimed in claim 15, wherein said broadcasting comprises using a system information block to broadcast the type of dedicated MME to which the eNB is capable of connecting.

17. A non-transitory medium having instructions stored thereon that, if executed, result in redirecting an enhanced node B (eNB) to connect to a dedicated mobility management entity (MME), by:

receiving a configuration update message from a present MME to redirect the eNB to connect with the dedicated MME; and

sending an MME configuration update acknowledgment to the MME in response to the configuration update message.

18. The medium as claimed in claim 17, wherein the configuration update message includes a redirect to dedicated MME information element.
