Abstract

A lighting device having an AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, a controller/processor electrically connected to the power converter, a LED current control circuit communicably coupled to the controller/processor and electrically connected to the power converter, and two or more LEDs communicably coupled to the LED current control circuit. The controller/processor determines a first and second number of counts for the LEDs to be ON to produce a blended light having a specified color, and generates control signal(s) based on the first and second number of counts. The LED current control circuit generates a first and second on/off signals having an on/off cycle time and first and second ON times corresponding to the first and second number of counts for the LEDs in response to the one or more control signals. The LEDs produce the blended light having the specified color in response to the first and second on/off signals.

Claims

1. A lighting device comprising:

an AC/DC or DC/DC power converter;

a controller/processor electrically connected to the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, wherein the controller/processor (1) determines a first number of counts for a first type or color LED to be ON to produce a blended light having a specified color, and a second number of counts for a second type or color LED to be ON to produce the blended light having the specified color, wherein each count corresponds to a time period, and (2) generates one or more control signals based on the first number of counts and the second number of counts;

a light emitting diode (LED) current control circuit communicably coupled to the controller/processor and electrically connected to the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, wherein the LED current control circuit generates a first on/off signal having an on/off cycle time and a first ON time corresponding to the first number of counts for the first type or color LED, and a second on/off signal having the on/off cycle time and a second ON time corresponding to the second number of counts for the second type or color LED in response to the one or more control signals; and

two or more LEDs communicably coupled to the LED current control circuit and comprising at least the first type or color LED and the second type or color LED, wherein the two or more LEDs produce the blended light having the specified color in response to the first on/off signal to the first type or color LED and the second on/off signal to the second type or color LED.

2. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the on/off cycle time corresponds to at least the first ON time plus the second ON time.

3. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the first type or color LED is not turned ON at the same time as the second type or color LED.

4. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising:

an ambient light sensor circuit communicably coupled to the controller/processor;

wherein the ambient light sensor detects a level of one or more color components of an ambient light, and the one or more color components comprise a red, a green, a blue, a cyan, a yellow, a magenta, or a black;

wherein the ambient light sensor is located to detect the ambient light and a light emitted by the lighting device such that the controller/processor adjusts one or more of the on/off signals provided to the two or more LEDs; and

wherein the ambient light sensor is disposed on a LED board with the two or more LEDs.

5. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising a hard reset circuit communicably coupled to the controller/processor.

6. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter comprises a battery, a battery backup or a rechargeable battery.

7. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising a wireless energy receiver connected to the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter.

8. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, the controller/processor, the LED current control circuit and the two or more LEDs are configured into two or more modules.

The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising a housing having a bi-pin connector, wherein the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, the controller/processor and the LED current control circuit are disposed within the housing, and the bi-pin connector is electrically connected to the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter.

The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising a housing having a plug-in connector, wherein the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, the controller/processor and the LED current control circuit are disposed within the housing, and the plug-in connector is electrically connected to the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter.

The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising a housing having a battery connector, wherein the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, the controller/processor and the LED current control circuit are disposed within the housing, and the battery connector is electrically connected to the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter.

12. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising a housing wherein the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter, the controller/processor and the LED current control circuit are disposed within the housing, and the two or more LEDs are proximate to or within an aperture of the housing.

13. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, further comprising:

a wireless transceiver circuit communicably coupled to the controller/processor; and

an antenna communicably coupled to the wireless transceiver circuit.

14. The lighting device as recited in claim 13, the antenna is external to the lighting device.

15. The lighting device as recited in claim 13, further comprising a signal booster or repeater communicably coupled to the antenna.

The lighting device as recited in claim 13, further comprising one or more other lighting devices, remote controllers, wireless controllers, wireless devices, sensors, other devices, or a combination thereof that communicates with the controller/processor of the lighting device using the wireless transceiver circuit, the antenna and one or more communication protocols.

17. The lighting device as recited in claim 16, further comprising a group of lighting devices comprising the lighting device and at least two or more of the other lighting devices.

18. The lighting device as recited in claim 16, wherein one or more parameters of the lighting device or the one or more other lighting devices are displayed on the remote controller, wireless controller or wireless device.

19. The lighting device as recited in claim 16, wherein the lighting device or the one or more lighting devices are displayed on the remote controller, wireless controller or wireless device in accordance with a user-defined filter or a user-defined sorting based on one or more criteria.

20. The lighting device as recited in claim 16, wherein the one or more sensors comprise a motion or accelerometer sensor.

21. The lighting device as recited in claim 16, the controller/processor receives and executes one or more commands from the one or more other lighting devices, remote controllers, sensors, other devices, or a combination thereof.

22. The lighting device as recited in claim 21, the one or more commands comprise one or more voice commands.

23. The lighting device as recited in claim 21, the one or more commands comprise one or more broadcast commands.

24. The lighting device as recited in claim 21, wherein the one or more commands select and control one or more groups of lighting devices using a user interface on the wireless controller or wireless device.

25. The lighting device as recited in claim 16, wherein the one or more other devices relay and/or transmit one or more commands.

26. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the LED current control circuit only provides a current to one of the two or more LEDs at any given time.

27. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the LED current control circuit limits an average current or a power provided to the two or more LEDs based on a rating of the AC/DC or DC/DC power converter.

28. The lighting device as recited in claim 1, wherein the LED current control circuit comprises at least a first LED current control circuit for the first type or color LED and a second LED current control circuit for the second type or color LED.

29. The lighting device as recited in claim 28, wherein the first LED current control circuit has a first assigned current limit and a second LED current control circuit has a second assigned current limit.

30. The lighting device as recited in claim 29, wherein the first assigned current limit is different than the second assigned current limit.

31. The lighting device as recited in claim 29, wherein:

the first assigned current limit is based on a first current or power rating of the first type or color LED;

the second assigned current limit is based on a second current or power rating of the second type or color LED.

32. The lighting device as recited in claim 29, wherein the controller/processor defines the first assigned current limit and the second assigned current limit.

33. The lighting device as recited 28, wherein:

the first LED current control circuit comprises a first digital potentiometer circuit having a first resistance proportional to a first data from the controller/processor; and

the second LED current control circuit comprises a second digital potentiometer circuit having a second resistance proportional to a second data from the controller/processor.
