Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a sensor network, Machine Type Communication (MTC), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication, and technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services based on the above technologies, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. An electronic device for and a method of performing wireless communication are provided. The electronic device includes a first module configured to transmit signals to another electronic device via a first type of link; a second module configured to transmit signals to the another electronic device via a second type of link; and a controller configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link if a predetermined event occurs.

Claims

1. An electronic device for performing wireless communication, the electronic device comprising:

a first module configured to transmit signals to another electronic device via a first type of link;

a second module configured to transmit signals to the another electronic device via a second type of link; and

a controller configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link if a predetermined event occurs.

2. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if an amount of used transfer queues exceeds a predetermined value and a holding time of the amount of used transfer queues is maintained for more than a predetermined time, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

3. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if a packet staying time exceeds a predetermined value, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

4. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the controller identifies a moving pattern and the moving pattern indicates that the electronic device moves away from the another electronic device, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

5. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the controller identifies a currently executed service and determines that the service is subject to management, the controller is configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

6. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if current traffic exceeds a predetermined value, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

7. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if a distance to the another electronic device exceeds a predetermined value, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

8. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if a link loss is identified, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

9. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the controller identifies a channel map and a channel classification and the channel is congested, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

10. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if link quality is less than a predetermined value, the controller is further configured to establish the first type of link and release from the second type of link.

11. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to detect the predetermined event by measuring strength of an RSSI signal.

12. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to detect the predetermined event using a Host Controller Interface (HCI) command.

13. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if a remaining life of a battery of the electronic device is less than a predetermined value, the controller is further configured to connect via a link which consumes less power.

14. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the second type of link is established before the first type of link is released.

29. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first type of link or the second type of link communicates without through a base station.

30. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first type of link or the second type of link uses direct connectivity.

15. A method of performing wireless communication in an electronic device, the method comprising:

communicating, by a first module, with another electronic device via a first type of link;

communicating, by a second module, with the another electronic device via a second type of link; and

if a predetermined event occurs, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if an amount of used transfer queues exceeds a predetermined value and a holding time of the amount of used transfer queues is maintained for more than a predetermined time, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if a packet staying time exceeds a predetermined value, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if a moving pattern is identified and the moving pattern indicates that the electronic device moves away from the another electronic device, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if a currently executed service is identified and it is determined that the service is subject to management, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if current traffic exceeds a predetermined value, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if a distance to the another electronic device exceeds a predetermined value, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

22. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if link loss is identified, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

23. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if a channel map and a channel classification are identified and the channel is congested, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

24. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if link quality is less than a predetermined value, establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link.

25. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises detecting the event by measuring strength of an RSSI signal.

26. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises detecting the event using a Host Controller Interface (HCI) command.

27. The method of claim 15, wherein establishing the first type of link and releasing from the second type of link comprises, if a remaining life of a battery of the electronic device is less than a predetermined value, connecting via a link which consumes less power.

28. The method of claim 15, wherein the second type of link is established before the first type of link is released.

31. The method of claim 15, wherein at least one of the first type of link or the second type of link communicates without through a base station.

32. The method of claim 15, wherein at least one of the first type of link or the second type of link uses direct connectivity.
