Abstract

An out-space actuator is selected to access an out-space user interface for a document editor program. An out-space actuator is associated with an in-space user interface having a displayed document. When the out-space actuator is selected, an out-space user interface is displayed that includes an expanded feature selection surface.

Claims

1. A method for accessing an out-space user interface associated with an in-space user interface, comprising:

displaying the in-space user interface for a document editor, the in-space user interface comprising in-space user interface elements and a document display area to display a document, the in-space user interface elements including authoring features to author content in the document;

displaying an out-space actuator with the in-space user interface; and

in response to receiving a selection of the out-space actuator, displaying the out-space user interface, the out-space user interface including non-authoring features that do not affect the content in the document.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the in-space user interface elements comprise features that when applied affect the content of the document displayed in the document display area.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to create a new document.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a list of recently accessed documents.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to perform file searches.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associated with document log features.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to open another document.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associating the document with one or more coauthoring persons.

9. A system for accessing an out-space user interface for a program, comprising:

a processor;

a display; and

a memory having computer-executable instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the system to;

display an in-space user interface for a document editor, the in-space user interface comprising in-space user interface elements and a document display area to display a document, the in-space user interface elements including authoring features to author content in the document;

display an out-space actuator with the in-space user interface; and

in response to receiving a selection of the out-space actuator, display the out-space user interface, the out-space user interface including out-space features that do not require the document to be visible while working with the out-space features.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the in-space user interface elements comprise features that when applied affect the content of the document displayed in the document display area.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to create a new document.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the out-space user interface includes a list of recently accessed documents.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to perform file searches.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associated with document log features.

15. The system of claim 9, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to open another document.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associating the document with one or more coauthoring persons.

17. A system for accessing an out-space user interface for a program, comprising:

a processor;

a display; and

a memory having computer-executable instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the system to;

display an in-space user interface for a document editor, the in-space user interface comprising in-space user interface elements and a document display area to display a document, the in-space user interface elements including authoring features to author content in the document, wherein the in-space user interface elements comprise features that when applied affect the content of the document displayed in the document display area;

display an out-space actuator with the in-space user interface; and

in response to receiving a selection of the out-space actuator, displaying the out-space user interface, the out-space user interface including non-authoring features that do not affect the content in the document, the non-authoring features including an option to create a new document, a list of recently accessed documents, and document log features.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to perform file searches.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to open another document.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associating the document with one or more coauthoring persons.
