Abstract

An image forming apparatus that shifts to a power saving state, includes a printing unit, a printing control unit configured to control the printing unit, and a power supply unit configured to supply power to the printing control unit when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state, wherein the printing control unit, to which power is supplied by the power supply unit, executes initialization of the printing unit in a case where a printing screen for performing a printing function is set as a initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state, and wherein the printing control unit does not execute initialization of the printing unit in a case where a selection screen for selecting the printing function is set as a initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state.

Claims

1. An image forming apparatus that shifts to a power saving state, comprising:

a printing unit;

a printing control unit configured to control the printing unit; and

a power supply unit configured to supply power to the printing control unit when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state,

wherein the printing control unit, to which power is supplied by the power supply unit, executes initialization of the printing unit in a case where a printing screen for performing a printing function is set as a initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state, and

wherein the printing control unit does not execute initialization of the printing unit in a case where a selection screen for selecting the printing function is set as a initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state.

2. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a signal output unit configured to output a signal to the printing control unit based on an initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state,

wherein the printing control unit executes initialization of the printing unit based on the signal output from the signal output unit.

3. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the initialization includes at least one of driving a motor used for driving a polygon mirror, driving a motor used for conveying a sheet, or adjusting temperature of a fixing unit.

4. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a reading unit,

wherein the printing control unit, to which power is supplied from the power supply unit, executes initialization of the printing unit and the reading unit in a case where a copying screen for performing a copying function is set as a initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state.

5. The image forming apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the initialization of the reading unit includes at least one of a home position adjustment of the reading unit for reading a document, and driving of a motor used for conveying the document.

6. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

a setting unit configured to set the initial screen in accordance with a user operation.

7. A method for controlling an image forming apparatus that can shift to a power saving state, the image forming apparatus including a printing unit and a printing control unit configured to control the printing unit, the method comprising:

supplying power to the printing control unit when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state, and

initializing the printing unit by the printing control unit to which the power is supplied in a case where a printing screen for performing a printing function is set as a initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state,

wherein the printing control unit does not execute the initialization of the printing unit in a case where a selection screen for selecting the printing function is set as the initial screen to be displayed when the image forming apparatus returns from the power saving state.
