Abstract

In one aspect, a device includes a touch-enabled display, a processor, and a memory accessible to the processor. The memory bears instructions executable by the processor to determine that an input device is within a proximity to the touch-enabled display, and in response to the determination and without supplemental input from a person, present on the touch-enabled display a user interface (UI) for providing input to the first device at least in part based on manipulation of the input device.

Claims

1. A first device, comprising:

a touch-enabled display;

a processor;

a memory accessible to the processor and bearing instructions executable by the processor to;

determine that an input device is within a proximity to the touch-enabled display; and

in response to the determination and without supplemental input from a person, present on the touch-enabled display a user interface (UI) for providing input to the first device at least in part based on manipulation of the input device.

2. The first device of claim 1, wherein the instructions are further executable to:

determine that the input device has been removed from the proximity of the first device; and

in response to the determination that the input device has been removed from the proximity of the first device, remove the UI from presentation on the touch-enabled display.

3. The first device of claim 2, wherein the UI is a first UI, and wherein the instructions are further executable to:

present a second UI on the touch-enabled display subsequent to removal of the first UI from presentation on the touch-enabled display.

4. The first device of claim 3, wherein the second UI is one that was presented on the touch-enabled display prior to the determination that the input device is within the proximity to the touch-enabled display.

5. The first device of claim 1, wherein the UI for providing input to the first device is at least one selected from the group consisting of:

an UI for receiving handwriting input from an input device, an UI for receiving drawing input from an input device.

6. The first device of claim 1, wherein the instructions are executable to present on the touch-enabled display the UI for providing input to the first device at least in part based on controlling an application already executing at the first device to present the UI.

7. The first device of claim 1, wherein the instructions are executable to present on the touch-enabled display the UI for providing input to the first device at least in part based on initiation of an application with which the UI is associated and which to execute to present the UI.

8. The first device of claim 1, wherein the UI is for providing input to the first device at least in part based on detection of the input device against the touch-enabled display.

9. The first device of claim 8, comprising the input device, wherein the input device is a stylus.

10. The first device of claim 1, wherein the UI is for providing input to the first device at least in part based on control of the input device in free space within the proximity.

11. The first device of claim 10, wherein the UI is for providing input to the first device at least in part based on control of the input device in free space above the touch-enabled display and within the proximity.

12. The first device of claim 1, wherein the determination that the input device is within the proximity to the touch-enabled display is based at least in part on detection by the touch-enabled display of at least a portion of the input device.

13. The first device of claim 1, wherein the UI is presented at least in part based on execution of an application selected from the group consisting of:

a handwriting application, a note taking application, a drawing application.

14. The first device of claim 1, wherein the proximity is a threshold distance from the touch-enabled display, the threshold distance established by a user prior to the determination that the input device is within the proximity to the touch-enabled display.

15. A method, comprising:

determining that a first device is one of at a threshold distance to a second device and within the threshold distance to the second device;

in response to the determining that the first device is one of at and within the threshold distance, and without user input to a second device different from the first device other than to move the first device to one of at and within the threshold distance, presenting on a display a user interface (UI) for providing input to the second device at least in part using the first device;

determining that the first device is no longer at least one of at the threshold distance and within the threshold distance; and

in response to the determining that the first device is no longer at least one of at the threshold distance and within the threshold distance, removing the UI from the display.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

in response to removing the UI from the display, presenting a second UI on the display subsequent to removal of the first UI from presentation on the display, the second UI being one that was presented prior to the determining that the first device is one of at and within the threshold distance to the second device.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the display is a touch-enabled display, and wherein the determining that the first device is one of at and within the threshold distance to the second device comprises determining, using the touch-enabled display, that at least a portion of the first device is one of at and within the threshold distance to the touch-enabled display.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the determining that the first device is one of at and within the threshold distance to the second device comprises determining, using a camera, that at least a portion of the first device is one of at and within the threshold distance to the second device.

19. A computer readable storage medium that is not a carrier wave, the computer readable storage medium bearing instructions executable by a processor to:

determine that an input device is within a proximity to a predefined area of a touch-enabled display, the predefined area of the touch-enabled display not being the entire area of the touch-enabled display; and

in response to the determination, present on the touch-enabled display a user interface (UI) for providing input to the touch-enabled display at least based on manipulation of the input device.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the instructions are further executable to:

determine at least one selected from the group consisting of;

that the input device has been removed from a threshold distance to any portion of the touch-enabled display, that the input device has been removed from the proximity for a threshold time; and

in response to at least one determination selected from the group consisting of that the input device has been removed from the threshold distance to any portion of the touch-enabled display and that the input device has been removed from the proximity for the threshold time, remove the UI from the touch-enabled display.
