Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer program products for accessing content in a travel management system. A request is received from an application to access a standard data element and a non-standard data element from an extended record data structure based at least in part upon access criteria. A plurality of attributes of a data container associated with the non-standard data element are filtered based at least in part upon a plurality of predefined filtering rules in order to generate filtered attributes. An abstract container is generated that includes the filtered attributes of the non-standard data element and that is assigned a unique abstract type.

Claims

1. A method of accessing content in a travel management system, the method comprising:

receiving a request from an application to access a standard data element and a non-standard data element from an extended record data structure based at least in part upon access criteria;

filtering a plurality of attributes of a first data container associated with the non-standard data element based at least in part upon a plurality of predefined filtering rules in order to generate filtered attributes; and

generating an abstract container that includes the filtered attributes of the non-standard data element and is assigned a unique abstract type.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the first data container is associated with a first structure description file describing a structure of the attributes of the first data container, and filtering the attributes of the first data container further comprises:

transforming the structure description file associated with the first data container based upon a predefined mapping scheme into a second structure description file,

wherein the predefined filtering rules are applied to the second structure description file.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein one of the attributes defines a type of the first data container, and the second structure description file is stored in association with the type.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the second structure description file is an XSD schema, and the predefined mapping scheme is an XSLT style sheet.

5. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

converting the standard data element into a second data container based upon the second structure description file.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein the non-standard data element is a business object model capable of being serializing into any application format.

The method of claim 1 wherein the standard data element satisfies IATA constraints and is obtained from a global distribution system operating as the travel management system, and the non-standard data element fails to satisfy the IATA constraints and is obtained from a source other than the global distribution system.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the abstract container is a business object model.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the access criteria are ordering criteria, and further comprising:

ordering the filtered elements of the abstract container according to the ordering criteria; and

after the filtered elements are ordered, returning the filtered elements to the application.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the filtered elements are chronologically ordered based upon time attributes, and the predefined filtering rules correspond to the time attributes.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the filtered elements are ordered based upon an alphabetic order related to a type of attribute, and the predefined filtering rules correspond to the attributes of types associated with the data elements.

12. A system for accessing content in a travel management system, the apparatus comprising:

at least one processor; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor, the memory including program code configured to be executed by the at least one processor to cause the apparatus system to;

receive a request from an application to access a standard data element and a non-standard data element from an extended record data structure based at least in part upon access criteria;

filter a plurality of attributes of a first data container associated with the non-standard data element based at least in part upon a plurality of predefined filtering rules in order to generate filtered attributes; and

generate an abstract container that includes the filtered attributes of the non-standard data element and is assigned a unique abstract type.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein the first data container is associated with a first structure description file describing a structure of the attributes of the first data container, and the program code configured to filter the attributes of the first data container further comprises:

program code configured to be executed by the at least one processor to cause the system to transform the structure description file associated with the first data container based upon a predefined mapping scheme into a second structure description file,

wherein the predefined filtering rules are applied to the second structure description file.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein one of the attributes defines a type of the first data container, and the second structure description file is stored in association with the type.

15. The system of claim 13 wherein the second structure description file is an XSD schema, and the predefined mapping scheme is an XSLT style sheet.

16. The system of claim 13 wherein the program code is further configured to be executed by the at least one processor to cause the system to:

convert the standard data element into a second data container based upon the second structure description file.

17. The system of claim 13 wherein the non-standard data element is a business object model capable of being serializing into any application format.

18. The system of claim 12 wherein the standard data element satisfies IATA constraints and is obtained from a global distribution system operating as the travel management system, and the non-standard data element fails to satisfy the IATA constraints and is obtained from a source other than the global distribution system.

19. The system of claim 12 wherein the abstract container is a business object model.

20. The system of claim 12 wherein the access criteria are ordering criteria, and the program code is further configured to be executed by the at least one processor to cause the system to:

order the filtered elements of the abstract container according to the ordering criteria; and

after the filtered elements are ordered, return the filtered elements to the application.

21. The system of claim 20 wherein the filtered elements are chronologically ordered based upon time attributes, and the predefined filtering rules correspond to the time attributes.

22. The system of claim 20 wherein the filtered elements are ordered based upon an alphabetic order related to a type of attribute, and the predefined filtering rules correspond to the attributes of types associated with the data elements.

23. A computer program product for accessing content in a travel management system, the computer program product comprising:

a non-transitory computer readable storage medium; and

instructions stored on the non-transitory computer readable storage medium that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to;

receive a request from an application to access a standard data element and a non-standard data element from an extended record data structure based at least in part upon access criteria;

filter a plurality of attributes of a first data container associated with the non-standard data element based at least in part upon a plurality of predefined filtering rules in order to generate filtered attributes; and

generate an abstract container that includes the filtered attributes of the non-standard data element and is assigned a unique abstract type.
