METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING LEAKS IN A PIPELINE NETWORK

1. A system for detecting leaks within a pipe network, the system comprising:
- a plurality of mobile sensors, wherein each mobile sensor in the plurality of mobile sensors is configured to be non-permanently attached to a pipe in the pipe network;
a plurality of mobile devices, wherein each mobile sensor in the plurality of mobile sensors is configured to communicate with a mobile device in the plurality of mobile devices in order to transmit sensor measurements to the mobile device;
an application server configured to process sensor measurements from the plurality of mobile sensors in order to estimate a location of a leak in the pipe network, wherein each mobile device in the plurality of mobile devices is configured to communicate with the application server using a communications network in order to transmit sensor measurements to the application server; and
a time source component, wherein each mobile device in the plurality of mobile devices is configured to communicate with the time source component in order to synchronize a sensor measurement recording time of the plurality of mobile sensors.

The mobile sensors can send sensor measurements to the mobile devices, and the mobile devices can send sensor measurements across a communications network to an application server. The application server is configured to process the sensor measurements in order to estimate a location of a leak in the pipe network. The system further includes a time source component, with the mobile devices communicating with the time source component in order to synchronize a sensor measurement recording time of the mobile sensors.

10. A method for detecting leaks within a pipe network, the method comprising:

non-permanently attaching each mobile sensor in a plurality of mobile sensors to a pipe in the pipe network; transmitting sensor measurements from each mobile sensor in the plurality of mobile sensors to a mobile device in a plurality of mobile devices; transmitting sensor measurements from each mobile device in the plurality of mobile devices to an application server; estimating a location of a leak in the pipe network by processing sensor measurements using the application server; and transmitting a time value from a time source component to each mobile device in the plurality of mobile devices in order to synchronize a sensor measurement recording time of the plurality of mobile sensors. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
