applying a weighting function to the collected data to generate a value representing the energy or fuel wasted due to acceleration and braking behavior;
tabulating the generated value over the duration of a driving event to generate a driver performance score;
evaluating the driver performance score based on a business model; and
modifying subsequent driver behavior based upon the evaluation.

collecting braking and accelerating data from a vehicle; applying a weighting function to the collected data to generate a value representing the energy or fuel wasted due to braking and accelerating behavior by an operator of the vehicle; determining a penalty for the braking and accelerating behavior by the operator of the vehicle from the generated value; and alerting the operator of the vehicle as to a determined penalty for the braking and accelerating behavior by the operator, wherein the operator is alerted as to the determined penalty at a predetermined time following the braking and accelerating behavior that caused the determined penalty. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22)
