Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for unlocking remote devices using a biometric input that is associated with a code stored on a mobile electronic device. After validating a biometric input that corresponds with a code that locks or unlocks a remote lock, the code may be sent to a remote electronic device in a transmission. When the code is validated by the remote electronic device as being associated with unlocking the remote lock, the remote device may then unlock the lock.

Claims

1. A method for securing a plurality of external electronic devices using a biometric input of a user, the method comprising:

receiving the biometric input of the user via an interface at a mobile electronic device;

storing biometric information related to the received biometric input in memory at the mobile electronic device;

storing information in the memory regarding each of the plurality of external electronic devices, wherein each external electronic device is associated with a different security code;

receiving the biometric input of the user via an interface at the mobile electronic device;

receiving a selection identifying a first external electronic device of the plurality of external electronic devices;

executing instructions stored in the memory, wherein execution of the instructions by a processor;

validates that the biometric input belongs to an authorized user based on identifying that the biometric input matches the stored biometric information, and

identifies a stored security code associated with the first external electronic device; and

transmitting the identified security code from the mobile electronic device to the first external electronic device, wherein the first external electronic device unlocks a lock at the first external electronic device based on the transmitted security code.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a selection from the user regarding the first external electronic device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the biometric input is at least one of a fingerprint, voiceprint, retina scan, and DNA sample.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising initializing the first external electronic device for biometric-based unlocking.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the initializing of the first external electronic device comprises:

displaying a menu on a screen of the mobile electronic device;

receiving user input regarding the biometric information and the security code;

storing the security code in the memory in association with the biometric information.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the lock unlocked is at least one of a door lock, a point of sale terminal, a computer lock, a mobile electronic device lock, and a remote secure access lock for securing access to a resource on a computer network.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the security code comprises data from the biometric input received by the mobile electronic device.

8. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having embodied thereon a program executable by a processor to perform a method for securing a plurality of external electronic devices using a biometric input of a user in a mobile electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving the biometric input of the user via an interface at a mobile electronic device;

storing biometric information related to the received biometric input in memory;

storing information in the memory regarding each of the plurality of external electronic devices, wherein each external electronic device is associated with a different security code;

receiving the biometric input of the user via an interface at the mobile electronic device;

receiving a selection identifying a first external electronic device of the plurality of external electronic devices;

validating that the biometric input belongs to an authorized user based on identifying that the biometric input matches the stored biometric information;

identifying a stored security code associated with the first external electronic device; and

transmitting the identified security code to the first external electronic device, wherein the first external electronic device unlocks a lock at the first external electronic device based on the transmitted security code.

9. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8, the program further executable to receive a selection from the user regarding the first external electronic device.

10. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the biometric input is at least one of a fingerprint, voiceprint, retina scan, and DNA sample.

11. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8, the program further executable to initialize the first external electronic device for biometric-based unlocking.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the initializing the first external electronic device comprises:

displaying a menu on a screen of the mobile electronic device;

receiving user input regarding the biometric information and the security code; and

storing the security code in the memory in association with the biometric information.

13. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the lock unlocked is at least one of a door lock, a point of sale terminal, a computer lock, a mobile electronic device lock, and a remote secure access lock for securing access to a resource on a computer network.

14. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the security code comprises data from the biometric input received by the mobile electronic device.

15. A system for securing an external electronic device using a biometric input of a user in a mobile electronic device, the system comprising:

a memory that stores biometric information associated with the user at a mobile electronic device;

an interface that receives the biometric input of the user, wherein the biometric input is received over the interface;

a processor that executes instructions stored in the memory, wherein execution of the instructions by the processor;

stores information in the memory regarding each of the plurality of external electronic devices, wherein each external electronic device is associated with a different security code;

receives a selection identifying a first external electronic device of the plurality of external electronic devices;

validates that the biometric input belongs to an authorized user based on identifying that the biometric input matches the to stored biometric information, and

identifies a stored security code associated with the first external electronic device; and

a communication interface that transmits the identified security code from the mobile electronic device to the first external electronic device, wherein the first external electronic device unlocks a lock based on the transmitted security code.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein a selection from the user regarding the first external electronic device is received.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the biometric input is at least one of a fingerprint, voiceprint, retina scan, and DNA sample.

18. The system of claim 15, further comprising initializing the first external electronic device for biometric-based unlocking.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the initializing of the first external electronic device comprises:

displaying a menu on a screen of the mobile electronic device;

receiving user input regarding the biometric information and the security code; and

storing the security code in the memory in association with the biometric information.

20. The system of claim 15, wherein the lock unlocked is at least one of a door lock, a point of sale terminal, a computer lock, a mobile electronic device lock, and a remote secure access lock for securing access to a resource on a computer network.
