Abstract

Systems and methods for communications with wearable devices are provided. Information may be stored in memory regarding user preferences, which may indicate whether vibration notification is allowed at a wearable device and whether vibration notification is allowed at a mobile device. A communication may be received at a mobile device. It may then be determined whether the wearable device and the mobile device are connected. The wearable device may be caused to generate a vibration notification if the wearable device and the mobile device are determined to be connected. The mobile device may be caused to generate a vibration notification if the wearable device and the mobile device are determined not to be connected.

Claims

1. A method for communications with wearable devices, the method comprising:

receiving a mobile notification preference and a wearable notification preference through a user interface, wherein the mobile notification preference identifies whether a mobile device is authorized to perform vibration notifications, and wherein the wearable notification preference identifies whether a wearable device is authorized to perform vibration notifications;

storing the mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference within a memory of the mobile device;

receiving a communication at the mobile device, the communication sent over a communication network; and

executing instructions stored in the memory, wherein execution of the instructions by a processor;

determines that the mobile device is connected to the wearable device, and

triggers one or more vibration notifications by at least one of the mobile device and the connected wearable device based on the stored mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference, wherein triggering vibration notifications at the connected wearable device includes sending a command from the mobile device to the connected wearable device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining that the wearable device has detected a motion via an accelerometer of the wearable device.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising receiving a motion dataset at the mobile device from the wearable device, the motion dataset based on detection of the motion, the motion dataset identifying at least one of an exercise mode or a potential emergency.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising triggering a vibration notification at the mobile device based on receipt of the motion dataset and authorization to do so in the mobile notification preference.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference authorize vibration notifications at both the wearable device and the mobile device, and further comprising triggering a vibration notification at both the mobile device and the wearable device.

The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a command input from the wearable device at the mobile device, the command input comprising at least one of button information based on a button of the wearable device and accelerometer motion information based on an accelerometer of the wearable device.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

storing information in the memory of the mobile device regarding a first command of a plurality of commands, the first command associated with the command input;

retrieving the stored information upon receipt of the command input; and

executing the identified command upon receipt of the command input.

8. A system for communications with wearable devices, the system comprising:

a display that displays a user interface;

a vibrator capable of vibrating to perform a vibration notification;

a coupling interface to communicate with a wearable device;

an input interface that receives one or more user inputs during display of the user interface, the one or more inputs corresponding to receipt of a mobile notification preference and a wearable notification preference, wherein the mobile notification preference identifies whether the vibrator is authorized to perform vibration notifications, and wherein the wearable notification preference identifies whether the wearable device is authorized to perform vibration notifications;

a memory that stores the mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference;

a communication interface that receives a communication over a communication network; and

a processor that executes instructions stored in the memory, wherein execution of the instructions by the processor;

determines that the coupling interface is connected to the wearable device, and

triggers one or more vibration notifications by at least one of the mobile device and the connected wearable device based on the stored mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference, wherein triggering vibration notifications at the connected wearable device includes sending a command from the mobile device to the connected wearable device.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein execution of the instructions by the processor further determines that a motion has been detected at the wearable device via an accelerometer of the wearable device.

The system of claim 9, wherein execution of the instructions by the processor further receives a motion dataset at the coupling interface from the wearable device, the motion dataset based on detection of the motion, the motion dataset identifying at least one of an exercise mode or a potential emergency.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein execution of the instructions by the processor further triggers a vibration notification at the vibrator based on receipt of the motion dataset and authorization to do so in the mobile notification preference.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference authorize vibration notifications at both the wearable device and the mobile device, and wherein execution of the instructions by the processor further triggers a vibration notification at both the mobile device and the wearable device.

The system of claim 8, wherein the coupling interface receives a command input from the wearable device at the mobile device, the command input comprising at least one of button information based on a button of the wearable device and accelerometer motion information based on an accelerometer of the wearable device.

The system of claim 13, wherein the memory further stores information regarding a first command of a plurality of commands, the first command associated with the command input, and wherein the processor executes further instructions to retrieve the stored information upon receipt of the command input and to execute the identified command upon receipt of the command input.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having embodied thereon a program executable by a processor to perform a method for communications with wearable devices, the method comprising:

receiving a mobile notification preference and a wearable notification preference through a user interface, wherein the mobile notification preference identifies whether a mobile device is authorized to perform vibration notifications, and wherein the wearable notification preference identifies whether a wearable device is authorized to perform vibration notifications;

storing the mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference within a memory of the mobile device;

receiving a communication at the mobile device, the communication sent over a communication network; and

executing instructions stored in the memory, wherein execution of the instructions by a processor;

determines that the mobile device is connected to the wearable device, and

triggers one or more vibration notifications by at least one of the mobile device and the connected wearable device based on the stored mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference, wherein triggering vibration notifications at the connected wearable device includes sending a command from the mobile device to the connected wearable device.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, further comprising determining that the wearable device has detected a motion via an accelerometer of the wearable device.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, further comprising receiving a motion dataset to at the mobile device from the wearable device, the motion dataset based on detection of the motion, the motion dataset identifying at least one of an exercise mode or a potential emergency.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the mobile notification preference and the wearable notification preference authorize vibration notifications at both the wearable device and the mobile device, and further comprising triggering a vibration notification at both the mobile device and the wearable device.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, further comprising receiving a command input from the wearable device at the mobile device, the command input comprising at least one of button information based on a button of the wearable device and accelerometer motion information based on an accelerometer of the wearable device.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 19, further comprising:

storing information in the memory of the mobile device regarding a first command of a plurality of commands, the first command associated with the command input;

retrieving the stored information upon receipt of the command input; and

executing the identified command upon receipt of the command input.
