Abstract

In V2V or other networks in which multiple video feeds are available to a participant, the participant'"'"'s ability to select a particular video feed for display can be eased through the use of guided scanning. A guided scanning strategy is built based on operator inputs and used to select a particular set of video feeds that are initially shown as a video “slideshow” on the display used by the participant. Each video feed appears only for a limited period of time to enable easy participant review. Once the participant sees a particular video feed of interest, that video feed to can be selected for persisted presentation on the display.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

an input subsystem including;

an input interface to acquire an input from a vehicle occupant corresponding to one or more properties that define a desired video feed by the vehicle occupant; and

a local video source and a network receiver to provide one or more available video feeds including live video from a participant in a vehicle-to-vehicle network;

a data processing subsystem including scan control logic to allow the vehicle occupant to perform a visual scan of selected video feeds that are to be obtained from among the available video feeds based on the input corresponding to the one or more properties that define the desired video feed by the vehicle occupant; and

an output subsystem to locally display the selected video feeds in a video slideshow format for the visual scan by the vehicle occupant.

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the local video source is to include a camera of a vehicle corresponding to the vehicle occupant that is to acquire at least one of the one of more available video feeds including the live video, and wherein the vehicle is to be at least one participant in the vehicle-to vehicle network.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the input interface is to allow the vehicle occupant to specify via the input that at least one of the one or more properties is to include only locally-generated available video feeds.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the scan control logic is to select video feeds from among the available video feeds that are only the locally-generated available video feeds.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the network receiver to acquire at least one of the one of more available video feeds including the live video from a camera of a remote vehicle, and wherein the remote vehicle is to be at least one participant in the vehicle-to vehicle network.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the input interface is to allow the vehicle occupant to specify via the input that at least one of the one or more properties is to include only remotely-generated available video feeds.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the scan control logic is to select video feeds from among the available video feeds that are only the remotely-generated available video feeds.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the input interface is to allow the vehicle occupant to implement via a subsequent input during the video scan a persisted local display of the live video from one of the selected video feeds.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the input interface is to allow the vehicle occupant to implement via a subsequent input during the video scan a modification to the one or more properties, and wherein the scan control logic is to allow the vehicle occupant to perform a subsequent visual scan of subsequent selected video feeds that are to be obtained from among the available video feeds based on the modification to the one or more properties.

10. A computer program product comprising:

a computer readable storage medium; and

computer usable code stored on the computer readable storage medium, where, when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to;

acquire an input from a vehicle occupant corresponding to one or more properties that define a desired video feed by the vehicle occupant;

provide one or more available video feeds including live video from a participant in a vehicle-to-vehicle network;

allow the vehicle occupant to perform a visual scan of selected video feeds that are to be obtained from among the available video feeds based on the input corresponding to the one or more properties that define the desired video feed by the vehicle occupant; and

locally display the selected video feeds in a video slideshow format for the visual scan by the vehicle occupant.

The computer program product of claim 10, wherein, when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to utilize a camera of a vehicle corresponding to the vehicle occupant to acquire at least one of the one of more available video feeds including the live video, and wherein the vehicle is to be at least one participant in the vehicle-to vehicle network.

12. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein, when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to:

allow the vehicle occupant to specify via the input that at least one of the one or more properties is to include only locally-generated available video feeds; and

select video feeds from among the available video feeds that are only the locally-generated available video feeds.

13. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to utilize a network receiver to acquire at least one of the one of more available video feeds including the live video from a camera of a remote vehicle, and wherein the remote vehicle is to be at least one participant in the vehicle-to vehicle network.

14. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein, when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to:

allow the vehicle occupant to specify via the input that at least one of the one or more properties is to include only remotely-generated available video feeds; and

select video feeds from among the available video feeds that are only the remotely-generated available video feeds.

15. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein, when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to implement in response to a subsequent input one or more of:

a persisted local display of the live video from one of the selected video feeds; and

a modification to the one or more properties, wherein, when executed by a processor, the computer usable code causes a computer to allow the vehicle occupant to perform a subsequent visual scan of subsequent selected video feeds that are to be obtained from among the available video feeds based on the modification to the one or more properties.

16. A method comprising:

acquiring an input from a vehicle occupant corresponding to one or more properties that define a desired video feed by the vehicle occupant;

providing one or more available video feeds including live video from a participant in a vehicle-to-vehicle network;

allowing the vehicle occupant to perform a visual scan of selected video feeds that are obtained from among the available video feeds based on the input corresponding to the one or more properties that define the desired video feed by the vehicle occupant; and

locally displaying the selected video feeds in a video slideshow format for the visual scan by the vehicle occupant.

17. The method of claim 16, further including one or more of:

utilizing a camera of a vehicle corresponding to the vehicle occupant to acquire at least one of the one of more available video feeds including the live video, wherein the vehicle is to be at least one participant in the vehicle-to vehicle network; and

utilizing a network receiver to acquire at least one of the one of more available video feeds including the live video from a camera of a remote vehicle, wherein the remote vehicle is to be at least one participant in the vehicle-to vehicle network.

18. The method of claim 16, further including:

allowing the vehicle occupant to specify via the input that at least one of the one or more properties includes only locally-generated available video feeds; and

selecting video feeds from among the available video feeds that are only the locally-generated available video feeds.

19. The method of claim 16, further including:

allowing the vehicle occupant to specify via the input that at least one of the one or more properties includes only remotely-generated available video feeds; and

selecting video feeds from among the available video feeds that are only the remotely-generated available video feeds.

20. The method of claim 16, further including implementing in response to a subsequent input one or more of:

a persisted local display of the live video from one of the selected video feeds;

a modification to the one or more properties to allow the vehicle occupant to perform a subsequent visual scan of subsequent selected video feeds that are to be obtained from among the available video feeds based on the modification to the one or more properties.
