Abstract

This invention relates to a drone based predictive system for detecting and analyzing web and drone based data in order to mitigate potential losses and enhance risk mitigation activities in commercial insurance such as for business owners policies and workers compensation. The drone is able to capture from a plurality of angles and perspectives to provide data to effect a variety of insurance based actions.

Claims

1. An insurance system for managing commercial insurance based policy data, the insurance system comprising:

one or more data storage devices storing data relating to a plurality of commercial insurance policies;

one or more computer processors in communication with the one or more data storage devices;

a communications interface in communication with the one or more computer processors and the one or more data storage device; and

a memory, coupled to the one or more computer processors, storing program instructions which, when executed by the one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to;

receive data via the communications interface indicative of a potential exception condition related to at least one of the plurality of commercial insurance policies;

receive data via the communications interface from at least one unmanned aerial vehicle (“

UAV”

) related to the exception condition, the data received from the UAV comprising pictorial based data from a plurality of vantage points;

process the data indicative of the potential exception condition and the received data from the UAV to determine at least one policy action for the at least one commercial insurance policy; and

communicating via the communications interface with an insurance subsystem to initiate an insurance workflow process related to the policy action.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the policy action is based on at least one of a Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) standard a North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) standard.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the exception condition is a business use not covered in the at least one commercial insurance policy.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the policy action is re-rating the commercial insurance policy.

5. The system of claim 1, where the policy action is instituting a stop payment via an electronic payment system.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the instructions include a location of an insured commercial entity.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the UAV provides video of an insured.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein at least one of the commercial insurance policies is a business owners policy, and the insurance workflow process is initiated at a renewal of the business owners policy.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein receiving data indicative of a potential exception condition related to a commercial insurance policy comprises data from at least one social media source related to an insured commercial entity.

10. The system of claim 1, receiving data indicative of a potential exception condition related to a commercial insurance policy comprises communicating with an insurance agent related to an insurance entity.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

determine an UAV commercial insurance data applicability score dependent at least on a building type associated with the at least one of the plurality of commercial insurance policies;

compare the determined score to a threshold;

responsive to the determined score being less than the threshold, forward the data indicative of a potential exception to an insurance workflow subsystem for investigation, without UAV data; and

responsive to the determined score being at least the threshold, issue instructions for UAV collection of information.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein processing the data indicative of a potential exception condition and the received data from the UAV to determine whether the exception condition requires a policy action for the commercial insurance policy comprises accessing data related to the commercial insurance policy to determine whether the exception condition represents a violation of one or more terms of the commercial insurance policy.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the data indicative of a potential exception condition relates to social media reviews of the business.

14. An insurance system for workers compensation insurance claim management, the insurance system comprising:

one or more data storage devices storing data relating to a workers compensation insurance claims;

one or more computer processors in communication with the one or more data storage devices;

a communications device in communication with the one or more computer processors and the one or more data storage device; and

a memory, coupled to the one or more computer processors, storing program instructions which, when executed by the one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to;

receive data indicative of at least one potential deviation from baseline reference data of a parameter of a workers insurance claim;

receive data from at least one drone device related to the deviation;

analyze the received data relative to the baseline reference data to determine if a deviation exists with respect to the baseline reference data; and

initiate an insurance workflow process to modify underlying commercial policy parameters, responsive to determining that a deviation exists.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein the received data comprises a social media posting about an allegedly injured individual.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the baseline reference data includes medical condition data about the allegedly injured individual.

17. The system of claim 14, further comprising:

responsive to the receiving data indicative of at least one potential deviation from baseline reference data of a parameter of a workers insurance claim, determining an UAV insurance injury data applicability score, based at least on address data associated with the workers insurance claim;

comparing the determined UAV insurance injury data applicability score to a threshold value;

responsive to the UAV insurance injury data applicability score being below the threshold value, providing the data indicative of at least one potential deviation from baseline reference data of the parameter of the workers insurance claim to an insurance workflow subsystem for investigation, without UAV data; and

responsive to the UAV insurance data applicability score being at least the threshold, issuing instructions for drone collection of information.

18. A computer-implemented insurance processing method for management of commercial insurance policy deviations, the method comprising:

receiving data from one or more social media sites related to one or more policyholders;

determining in a processor if a potential exception condition exists related to a commercial insurance policy in the received data;

determining instructions in a processor related to the potential exception condition to communicate to at least one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) device;

receiving data via the communications interface from at least one UAV related to the exception condition;

accessing the commercial insurance policy on one of the storage devices;

processing in a processor the data indicative of the potential exception condition and the received data from the UAV to determine a policy action for the commercial insurance policy; and

communicating via the communications interface with an insurance subsystem to initiate an insurance workflow process related to the policy action.

19. The computer implemented method of claim 18, wherein the insurance workflow process comprises one of denying a claim, cancelling a policy, re-underwriting a policy, re-rating a policy, generating an offer for additional or extended insurance coverage, and instituting a stop payment.

20. The computer implemented method of claim 18, wherein the received data is at least one social media posting from the one or more policyholders.
