Abstract

Methods and apparatuses are provided for receiving system information by a user equipment (UE). System information including first partial bits of a system frame number (SFN) and bandwidth information are received at a first subframe of a radio frame. The system information is identical during a broadcast channel transmission period. Second partial bits of the SFN are acquired having a different value in each of radio frames within the broadcast channel transmission period.

Claims

1. A method for receiving system information, the method comprising:

receiving the system information comprising first partial bits of a system frame number (SFN) in a first subframe of a radio frame, the system information remaining fixed during a broadcast channel transmission period; and

acquiring second partial bits of the SFN, the second partial bits having a different value in each of a plurality of radio frames within the broadcast channel transmission period.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the second partial bits of the SFN comprise two bits.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the broadcast channel transmission period comprises four radio frames.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the SFN is calculated based on the first partial bits and the second partial bits.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information further comprises bandwidth information and physical channel configuration information.

6. A method for transmitting system information by a Node B in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting the system information in a first subframe of a radio frame; and

providing partial information of a system frame number (SFN),

wherein the system information comprises first partial bits of the SFN, the system information remaining fixed during a broadcast channel transmission period, and

wherein the partial information has a different value in each of a plurality of radio frames within the broadcast channel transmission period.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the partial information comprises two bits.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the broadcast channel transmission period comprises four radio frames.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the SFN is calculated based on the first partial bits and the partial information.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein the system information further comprises bandwidth information and physical channel configuration information.

11. A user equipment (UE) for receiving system information, the UE comprising:

a transceiver configured to receive the system information comprising first partial bits of a system frame number (SFN) in a first subframe of a radio frame, the system information remaining fixed during a broadcast channel transmission period; and

a controller configured to acquire second partial bits of the SFN, the second partial bits having a different value in each of a plurality of radio frames within the broadcast channel transmission period.

12. The UE of claim 11, wherein the second partial bits of the SFN comprises two bits.

13. The UE of claim 11, wherein the broadcast channel transmission period comprises four radio frames.

14. The UE of claim 11, wherein the SFN is calculated based on the first partial bits and the second partial bits.

15. The UE of claim 11, wherein the system information further comprises bandwidth information and physical channel configuration information.

16. A Node B for transmitting system information by a Node B in a mobile communication system, the Node B comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit the system information in a first subframe of a radio frame, and provide partial information of a system frame number (SFN);

wherein the system information comprises first partial bits of the SFN, the system information remaining fixed during a broadcast channel transmission period, and

wherein the partial information has a different value in each of a plurality of radio frames within the broadcast channel transmission period.

17. The Node B of claim 16, wherein the partial information comprises two bits.

18. The Node B of claim 16, wherein the broadcast channel transmission period comprises four radio frames.

19. The Node B of claim 16, wherein the SFN is calculated based on the first partial bits and the partial information.

20. The Node B of claim 16, wherein the system information further comprises bandwidth information and physical channel configuration information.
