Abstract

An out-space actuator is selected to access an out-space user interface for a document editor program. An out-space actuator is associated with an in-space user interface having a displayed document. When the out-space actuator is selected, an out-space user interface is displayed that includes an expanded feature selection surface.

Claims

1. A mobile computing device for accessing an in-space user interface and an out-space user interface for a document editor, comprising:

a processor;

a display; and

a memory having computer-executable instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the mobile computing device to;

display the in-space user interface for the document editor, the in-space user interface comprising in-space user interface elements and a document display area to display a document, the in-space user interface elements including authoring features to author content in the document;

display an out-space actuator with the in-space user interface; and

in response to receiving a selection of the out-space actuator, display the out-space user interface, the out-space user interface including out-space features that do not require the document to be visible while working with the out-space features.

2. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the in-space user interface elements comprise features that when applied affect the content of the document displayed in the document display area.

3. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to create a new document.

4. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a list of recently accessed documents.

5. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to perform file searches.

6. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associated with document log features.

7. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface displays a thumbnail of the document.

8. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to share the document.

9. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to print the document.

10. A method for accessing an in-space user interface and an out-space user interface for a document editor, comprising:

displaying the in-space user interface for the document editor, the in-space user interface comprising in-space user interface elements and a document display area to display a document, the in-space user interface elements including authoring features to author content in the document, wherein the in-space user interface elements comprise features that when applied affect the content of the document displayed in the document display area;

displaying an out-space actuator with the in-space user interface; and

in response to receiving a selection of the out-space actuator, displaying the out-space user interface, the out-space user interface including non-authoring features that do not affect the content in the document.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to create a new document.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface includes a list of recently accessed documents.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to perform file searches.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature associated with document log features.

15. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface displays a thumbnail of the document.

16. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to share the document.

17. The method of claim 10, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to print the document.

18. A mobile computing device for accessing an in-space user interface and an out-space user interface for a document editor, comprising:

a processor;

a display; and

a memory having computer-executable instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the mobile computing device to;

display the in-space user interface for the document editor, the in-space user interface comprising in-space user interface elements and a document display area to display a document, the in-space user interface elements including authoring features to author content in the document, wherein the in-space user interface elements comprise features that when applied affect the content of the document displayed in the document display area;

display an out-space actuator with the in-space user interface; and

in response to receiving a selection of the out-space actuator, displaying the out-space user interface, the out-space user interface including non-authoring features that do not affect the content in the document, the non-authoring features including an option to create a new document, a list of recently accessed documents including a document log displaying relevant dates, and a document search.

19. The mobile computing device of claim 18, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to share the document.

20. The mobile computing device of claim 18, wherein the out-space user interface includes a non-authoring feature to print the document.
