Abstract

An electronic device, with a touch-sensitive surface and a display, includes one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface. The device detects a contact on the touch-sensitive surface while a focus selector corresponding to the contact is at a respective location on the display associated with additional information not initially displayed on the display. While the focus selector is at the respective location, upon determining that the contact has an intensity above a respective intensity threshold before a predefined delay time has elapsed with the focus selector at the respective location, the device displays the additional information associated with the respective location without waiting until the predefined delay time has elapsed; and upon determining that the contact has an intensity below the respective intensity threshold, the device waits until the predefined delay time has elapsed to display the additional information associated with the respective location.

Claims

1. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive display, cause the device to:

display, on the touch-sensitive display, first content;

while a contact is detected at a first location on the touch-sensitive display that corresponds to a respective area of the first content, detect an increase in intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive display above a respective intensity threshold; and

,

in response to detecting the increase in intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive display above the respective intensity threshold;

cease to display a portion of the first content in the respective area; and

display in the respective area, in place of the portion of the first content, corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact.

2. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein:

the size of the respective area is determined based on an intensity of the contact; and

the one or more programs comprise instructions, which when executed by the electronic device cause the electronic device to, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact;

detect an increase in intensity of the contact; and

,

in response to detecting an increase in intensity of the contact, increase the size of the respective area.

The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the one or more programs comprise instructions, which when executed by the electronic device cause the electronic device to, prior to displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detect an increase in intensity of the contact from a first intensity below the respective intensity threshold to a second intensity below the respective intensity threshold; and

,

in response to detecting the increase in intensity of the contact to the second intensity below the respective intensity threshold;

in accordance with a determination that the second intensity is below a transition-initiation intensity, continue to display the portion of the first content in the respective area; and

in accordance with a determination that the intensity of the contact is above the transition-initiation intensity threshold, gradually reveal the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact as the intensity of the contact increases.

4. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the one or more programs comprise instructions, which when executed by the electronic device cause the electronic device to, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detect movement of the contact to a second location on the touch-sensitive display; and

,

in response to detecting movement of the contact;

cease to display at least a portion of the corresponding content; and

display different corresponding content that corresponds to the second location of the contact.

5. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 4, wherein the different corresponding content that corresponds to the second location of the contact at least partially overlaps the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact.

6. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the respective area is a circular area in the first content.

7. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, the one or more programs comprise instructions, which when executed by the electronic device cause the electronic device to, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detect a decrease in intensity of the contact without detecting liftoff of the contact from the touch-sensitive display; and

,

in response to detecting the decrease in intensity of the contact, redisplay the portion of the first content that ceased to be displayed in the respective area.

8. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the respective area is displayed as a virtual loupe.

9. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein display of portions of the first content outside of the respective region are maintained while the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location is displayed in the respective area.

10. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein a size of the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location increases as the intensity of the contact increases.

11. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein the first content is an image of an object and the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location is from an image of the object.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 1, wherein boundaries of the respective area are displayed to the user while the portion of the first content is displayed within the respective area before the intensity of the contact reaches the respective intensity threshold at which the portion of the first content within the respective area ceases to be displayed.

13. A method, comprising:

at an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, wherein the device includes one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive display;

displaying, on the touch-sensitive display, first content;

while a contact is detected at a first location on the touch-sensitive display that corresponds to a respective area of the first content, detecting an increase in intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive display above a respective intensity threshold; and

,

in response to detecting the increase in intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive display above the respective intensity threshold;

ceasing to display a portion of the first content in the respective area; and

displaying in the respective area, in place of the portion of the first content, corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact.

14. The method of claim 13, including, prior to displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detecting an increase in intensity of the contact from a first intensity below the respective intensity threshold to a second intensity below the respective intensity threshold; and

in response to detecting the increase in intensity of the contact to the second intensity below the respective intensity threshold;

in accordance with a determination that the second intensity is below a transition-initiation intensity, continuing to display the portion of the first content in the respective area; and

in accordance with a determination that the intensity of the contact is above the transition-initiation intensity threshold, gradually revealing the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact as the intensity of the contact increases.

15. The method of claim 13, including, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detecting movement of the contact to a second location on the touch-sensitive display; and

in response to detecting movement of the contact;

ceasing to display at least a portion of the corresponding content; and

displaying a different corresponding content that corresponds to the second location of the contact.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the different corresponding content that corresponds to the second location of the contact at least partially overlaps the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact.

17. The method of claim 13, including, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detecting a decrease in intensity of the contact without detecting liftoff of the contact from the touch-sensitive display; and

,

in response to detecting the decrease in intensity of the contact, redisplaying the portion of the first content that ceased to be displayed in the respective area.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the respective area is displayed as a virtual loupe.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the first content is an image of an object and the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location is from an image of the object.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein boundaries of the respective area are displayed to the user while the portion of the first content is displayed within the respective area before the intensity of the contact reaches the respective intensity threshold at which the portion of the first content within the respective area ceases to be displayed.

21. An electronic device, comprising:

a touch-sensitive display;

one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive display;

one or more processors;

memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

displaying, on the touch-sensitive display, first content;

while a contact is detected at a first location on the touch-sensitive display that corresponds to a respective area of the first content, detecting an increase in intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive display above a respective intensity threshold; and

in response to detecting the increase in intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive display above the respective intensity threshold;

ceasing to display a portion of the first content in the respective area; and

displaying in the respective area, in place of the portion of the first content, corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact.

22. The device of claim 21, wherein the one or more programs includes instructions for prior to displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detecting an increase in intensity of the contact from a first intensity below the respective intensity threshold to a second intensity below the respective intensity threshold; and

,

in response to detecting the increase in intensity of the contact to the second intensity below the respective intensity threshold;

in accordance with a determination that the second intensity is below a transition-initiation intensity, continuing to display the portion of the first content in the respective area; and

in accordance with a determination that the intensity of the contact is above the transition-initiation intensity threshold, gradually revealing the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact as the intensity of the contact increases.

23. The device of claim 21, wherein the one or more programs includes instructions for, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detecting movement of the contact to a second location on the touch-sensitive display; and

in response to detecting movement of the contact;

ceasing to display at least a portion of the corresponding content; and

displaying a different corresponding content that corresponds to the second location of the contact.

24. The device of claim 23, wherein the different corresponding content that corresponds to the second location of the contact at least partially overlaps the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact.

25. The device of claim 21, wherein the one or more programs includes instructions for, after displaying the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location of the contact:

detecting a decrease in intensity of the contact without detecting liftoff of the contact from the touch-sensitive display; and

,

in response to detecting the decrease in intensity of the contact, redisplaying the portion of the first content that ceased to be displayed in the respective area.

26. The device of claim 21, wherein the respective area is displayed as a virtual loupe.

27. The device of claim 21, wherein the first content is an image of an object and the corresponding content that corresponds to the first location is from an image of the object.

28. The device of claim 21, wherein boundaries of the respective area are displayed to the user while the portion of the first content is displayed within the respective area before the intensity of the contact reaches the respective intensity threshold at which the portion of the first content within the respective area ceases to be displayed.
