Abstract

An output device for providing output service to a mobile information apparatus without requiring a device specific output driver installed at the mobile information apparatus. The wireless output device may include an operating system, a wireless communication unit for radio frequency communication, a display screen, and a user interface over the display screen, the output device may include features for installing one or more application software at the output device for expanding the capabilities of the output device, registering the output device with a control point over a network and providing an identification of the output device for enabling one or more mobile information apparatuses to transmit output data to the output device. Subsequent to registering the output device and providing the identification information of the output device, the output device receives output data associated with the identification information from the mobile information apparatus for rendering.

Claims

1. A non-transitory computer readable recording medium in which a program to execute a data output method of a wireless communication device, is recorded, the method comprising:

controlling to search for one or more output devices;

controlling to display on a touch screen display of the wireless communication device a list of the one or more output devices found through the searching;

receiving an input via the touch screen display for selecting an output device from the list of the one or more output devices;

controlling to transmit first information regarding the selected output device, to the selected output device;

receiving, based on the first information, second information from the selected output device; and

generating an output data based at least in part on the second information.

2. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises controlling to wirelessly transmit the output data to the selected output device.

3. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the selected output device is a printer.

4. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the list of the one or more output devices comprises output device model information.

5. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the second information comprises an output device attribute of the selected output device.

6. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 5, wherein the output device attribute comprises at least one of a duplex printing attribute or a color printing attribute.

7. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises controlling to display a user interface to receive a user input to print via the selected output device.

8. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 7, wherein the method further comprises instructing to display a user interface for selecting a setting including at least one from among a number of copies, a page range, and a duplex printing setting.

9. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the output data comprises a print setting, based on the received second information, and print content.

10. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 1, wherein the selected output device provides an output service to the wireless communication device without requiring a device specific output driver installed at the wireless communication device.

11. A non-transitory computer readable recording medium having recorded therein a program executable by a processor to perform a data output method of a wireless communication device, the data output method comprising:

controlling to detect an output device based on a physical proximity of the wireless communication device to the output device;

controlling to wirelessly connect to the detected output device;

receiving an output device attribute of the connected output device, from the connected output device; and

instructing to display on the touch screen display a user interface based on the output device attribute, for outputting an item via the connected output device.

12. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 11, wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a user input via the displayed user interface; and

controlling to wirelessly transmit the item to the selected output device based on the received user input.

13. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 11, wherein the output device attribute comprises at least one of a duplex printing attribute or a color printing attribute.

14. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 11, wherein the instructing to display comprises instructing to display the user interface for selecting a setting including at least one from among a number of copies, a page range, and a duplex printing setting.

15. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 11, wherein the connected output device provides an output service to the wireless communication device without requiring a device specific output driver installed at the wireless communication device.

16. A non-transitory computer readable recording medium having recorded therein a program executable by a processor to perform a data output method of a wireless communication device, the data output method comprising:

searching for one or more output devices;

controlling to display on a touch screen display of the wireless communication device a list of the one or more output devices found through the searching;

receiving an input via the touch screen display for selecting an output device from the list of the one or more output devices;

transmitting information regarding the selected output device, to the selected output device;

receiving, based on the transmitted information, an output device attribute of the selected output device, from the selected output device;

controlling to display a first user interface for receiving a selection of an item for printing; and

instructing to display on the touch screen display a second user interface based on the output device attribute, for printing the item.

17. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 16, wherein the output device attribute comprises at least one of a duplex printing attribute or a color printing attribute.

18. The non-transitory computer readable recording medium of claim 16, wherein the selected output device provides an output service to the wireless communication device without requiring a device specific output driver installed at the wireless communication device.
