Abstract

Systems and methods are discussed for providing sensor enhanced safety, recovery and activity evaluation systems. Sensors, such as accelerometers, that monitor individual activity-level related data provide data to an activity evaluation module. The activity evaluation module analyzes the received data to determine an activity level associated with the individual. The activity level determination may be employed in providing feedback to an individual.

Claims

1. An activity evaluation system, comprising:

an electronic evaluation module configured to;

collect activity level-related data, the activity level-related data being data indicative of one or more of horizontal body position, vertical body position, body movement, body orientation, frequency of movement, duration of movement and movement distance of an individual distinct from a first entity, from at least one sensor;

analyze the collected activity level-related data to determine an activity evaluation indicative of the activity level of the individual; and

output the activity evaluation; and

a communications module configured to communicate at least one of the collected activity level-related data and the activity evaluation to a computer system operated by a second entity distinct from both the first entity and the individual, the second entity computer system adjusting parameters associated with the first entity based on the at least one of the collective activity level-related data and the activity evaluation.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising at least one sensor configured to monitor the activity-related data of the individual.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one sensor is worn by the individual, and is configured to provide a notification if the at least one sensor is removed from the individual.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one 3-axis accelerometer.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the electronic evaluation module is further configured to disregard at least one of small movements and brief movements in the determination of the activity evaluation.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising an output device configured to provide feedback that is based at least in part on the activity evaluation.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the output device is configured to provide real-time feedback to at least one of the individual and the first entity, the feedback comprising at least one of a visual, audio or tactile stimulus.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the individual is an employee of the first entity, the at least one sensor is worn by the employee, and the activity level is at least partially representative of physical activity of the employee.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the first entity is a healthcare facility and the individual is a patient at the healthcare facility, the at least one sensor is worn by the individual, and the activity level is at least partially representative of physical activity of the individual.

10. An activity evaluation system, comprising:

at least one sensor configured to monitor an activity level of an individual associated with and distinct from a first entity;

an activity evaluation module configured to;

collect activity level-related data, the activity level-related data being data indicative of one or more of horizontal body position, vertical body position, body movement, body orientation, frequency of movement, duration of movement and movement distance of the individual, from the at least one sensor;

analyze the collected activity level-related data to determine an activity evaluation indicative of the activity level of the individual; and

output the activity evaluation; and

an output device configured to provide feedback that is based at least in part on the activity evaluation; and

a communications module configured to communicate at least one of the collected activity level-related data and the activity evaluation, and a sensor removal notification to a computer system operated by a second entity for use in adjusting parameters associated with the first entity based on the at least one of the collected activity level-related data and the activity evaluation.

The system of claim 10, wherein the first entity is a healthcare facility and the individual is a patient at the healthcare facility, the at least one sensor is worn by the patient, the activity level-related data is at least partially representative of physical activity of the patient, and the output device is configured to provide the feedback to a caregiver associated with the healthcare facility.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one 3-axis accelerometer coupled to an analog to digital converter.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the activity evaluation module is further configured to disregard at least one of small movements and brief movements in the determination of the activity evaluation.

14. The system of claim 10, wherein the activity evaluation module is further configured to determine frequency of movement based on time series data measured by the at least one sensor.

15. The system of claim 10, further comprising a preprocessing device configured to receive data from the at least one sensor, preprocess the received data, and provide the preprocessed data to the activity evaluation module.

16. A method for evaluating activity of an individual, comprising:

monitoring, with at least one sensor, activity-level related data of an individual associated with and distinct from a first entity;

collecting, with an activity evaluation module, activity level-related data, the activity level-related data being data indicative of one or more of horizontal body position, vertical body position, body movement, body orientation, frequency of movement, duration of movement and movement distance of the individual, from the at least one sensor;

analyzing, with the activity evaluation model, the collected activity level-related data to determine an activity evaluation indicative of the activity level of the individual; and

outputting, with the activity evaluation model, the activity evaluation; and

communicating, with a communications module, at least one of the collected activity level-related data and the activity evaluation to a computer system operated by a second entity and configured to adjust parameters associated with the individual.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising outputting, with an output device, real-time feedback based at least in part on the activity evaluation.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one 3-axis accelerometer.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the analyzing further comprises disregarding at least one of small movements and brief movements in the determination of the activity evaluation.

20. The method of claim 16, further comprising preprocessing the data by a preprocessing device prior to the analyzing.
