- a charging device configured to convert kinetic energy of linear motion to electromotive force; and
a rechargeable power source coupled to the charging device,wherein the linear motion is caused by movement of the door assembly to charge the rechargeable power source.

The charging device for use with a door assembly is configured to convert kinetic energy of linear motion to electromotive force and includes a rechargeable power source coupled to the charging device, wherein the linear motion is caused by movement of the door assembly to charge the rechargeable power source. Also, a charging device and method for wirelessly charging an electrical storage device on a door assembly includes a transmitting coil positioned proximate a door assembly and a receiving coil positioned on a door assembly for inductively charging the electrical storage device and for powering a senor for wirelessly sending an alert signal.
