1. A daylight opening surround for a motor vehicle, the surround comprising:
- a light transmitting element forming an optical waveguide that is configured to transmit light from a light source, wherein said light transmitting element comprises an inner surface and/or at least one lateral surface;
a cladding having a lower refractive index than said light transmitting element or a reflective layer disposed on said inner surface and/or said at least one lateral surface;
a light transmitting layer disposed on an outer surface of said light transmitting element; and
a channel in an underside of said light transmitting element.
