Abstract

A personalized patient alarm management profile configured to be used when monitoring one or more medical parameters, the personalized patient alarm management profile determined based on at least two profile determinants.

Claims

1. A method for determining a personalized patient alarm management profile configured to be used when monitoring one or more medical parameters, the method comprising:

proving to a processor at least two profile determinants, said at least two profile determinants comprising a clinical environment of a patient, a background characteristic of the patient, a treatment profile of the patient or any combination thereof; and

determining the personalized patient alarm management profile based on the at least two profile determinants.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the clinical environment comprises:

post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), postoperative care unit (Post-OP), emergency department/emergency medical services (ED/EMS), Intensive care unit (ICU), procedural unit, sedation unit, general care unit, pain management unit or combinations thereof.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the background characteristic comprises:

generally healthy, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), asthma, chronic heart failure (CHF), Low base-line peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO₂), head injury, age, sex, weight or any combination thereof.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the treatment profile comprises:

oxygen supply, CO₂ insufflation, intubated, non-invasive intubation, non-intubated, medication, machine ventilation, bagged, sedation, analgesia or any combination thereof.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting the personalized patient alarm management profile based on a change in one or more of the at least two profile determinants.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a contextual threshold value based on the personalized patient alarm management profile.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the determined contextual threshold value is a threshold range.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein values within the threshold range are weighted by an incremental time factor.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the threshold range comprises a coarse threshold region and a tunable threshold region.

10. A control logic configured to:

receive a measured medical parameter of a patient;

compare said measured medical parameter to a contextual threshold value; and

trigger an alarm when said measured medical parameter crosses said contextual threshold value;

wherein said contextual threshold value is determined based on a personalized patient alarm management profile, said personalized patient alarm management profile based on at least two profile determinants.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the at least two profile determinants comprise a clinical environment of a patient, a background characteristic of the patient, a treatment profile of the patient or any combination thereof.

12. The control logic of claim 10, further comprising adjusting said personalized patient alarm management profile and/or said threshold value according to an assessed patient status based on said measured medical parameter, on a determined alarm pattern, or on a combination of both.

13. The control logic of claim 10, wherein the determined contextual threshold is a threshold range.

14. The control logic of claim 13, wherein values within the threshold range are weighted by an incremental time factor.

15. The control logic of claim 13, wherein the threshold range comprises a coarse threshold region and a tunable threshold region.

16. The control logic of claim 10, further configured to display said measured medical parameter, a trend in said measured medical parameter or both on a display.

17. The control logic of claim 16, further configured to display a history of measured medical parameters obtained during a predetermined time period prior to said alarm being triggered.

The control logic of claim 10, wherein said measured medical parameter comprises a CO₂ related parameter, a ventilation related parameter, respiration rate (RR), an oxygen related parameter, heart rate (HR), an electrocardiogram (ECG), an encephalogram (EEG), blood pressure, spirometry, level of consciousness, level of sedation or any combination thereof.

19. The control logic of claim 10, wherein said measured medical parameter comprises an algorithmically-derived index of multiple parameters.

20. A user interface for determining a personalized patient alarm management profile for use when monitoring one or more medical parameters, said user interface comprising

at least two profile determinants, each of said at least two profile determinants comprising at least one user selectable option;

and

a processor configured to determine a personalized patient alarm management profile based on said at least two profile determinants.
