Abstract

A wearable therapeutic device includes a garment configured to be worn on a torso of a patient. The garment has an anterior portion and a posterior portion. The garment is configured to house at least one defibrillator component, a first therapy electrode disposed in the anterior portion of the garment, a second therapy electrode disposed in the posterior portion of the garment, and an alarm module configured to alert the patient of an impending defibrillation shock from the at least one defibrillator component to be delivered by at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode. The first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode are configured to be electrically coupled to the at least one defibrillator component. At least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode is at least one of woven into the garment and comprises a textile material.

Claims

1. A wearable therapeutic device comprising:

at least one defibrillator component;

a first therapy electrode and a second therapy electrode configured to be electrically coupled to the at least one defibrillator component;

an alarm module configured to alert the patient of an impending defibrillation shock from the at least one defibrillator component to be delivered by at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode; and

a garment configured to be worn on a torso of a patient, the garment having an anterior portion and a posterior portion, the garment configured to house the at least one defibrillator component, the first therapy electrode in the anterior portion of the garment, and the second therapy electrode in the posterior portion of the garment,

at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode being at least one of woven into the garment and formed from a textile material.

2. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the garment is further configured to house a third therapy electrode in the posterior portion of the garment.

3. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode comprises conductive thread woven into the garment.

4. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 3, wherein a portion of the garment is configured to be disposed between the conductive thread and the patient.

5. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode includes a conductive textile material stitched into the garment with conductive thread.

6. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the garment comprises a breathable, elastic material.

7. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the garment is shaped as a vest.

8. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the garment is further configured to house at least one sensing electrode configured to sense electrical activity of a heart of the patient.

9. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 8, wherein the at least one sensing electrode is coupled to the garment with a snap.

10. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, further comprising a user interface including an actuator that, when actuated by the patient, causes the impending defibrillation shock to be aborted.

11. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode is a permanently disposed within the garment.

12. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the textile material is a conductive textile material.

The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the garment is further configured to house a receptacle proximate at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode, the receptacle configured to dispense a conductive fluid onto at least part of a surface of the at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode.

14. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 13, wherein the receptacle is electrically coupled to a receptacle control unit housed in the garment.

15. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 1, wherein the garment is further configured to house a monitor.

16. A wearable therapeutic device comprising:

a garment configured to be worn on a torso of a patient, the garment having an anterior portion and a posterior portion and configured to house

at least two therapeutic device components,

a first therapy electrode disposed in the anterior portion of the garment, and

a second therapy electrode disposed in the posterior portion of the garment;

wherein the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode are electrically coupled to at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components, and at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode is at least one of woven into the garment and comprises a textile material.

17. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein the at least two therapeutic device components are separate from each other.

18. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein one of the at least two therapeutic device components includes an external defibrillator.

19. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein the garment is further configured to house at least one sensing electrode configured to sense electrical activity of a heart of the subject and to couple to the garment with a snap.

20. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein the garment is further configured to house a third therapy electrode in the posterior portion of the garment.

21. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode comprises conductive thread woven into the garment.

22. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein the garment comprises a breathable, elastic material.

23. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 16, wherein the garment is shaped as a vest.

24. A wearable therapeutic device comprising:

a garment configured to be worn about a torso of a patient, the garment having an anterior portion and a posterior portion and configured to house

at least two therapeutic device components, at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components comprising a power source,

a first therapy electrode disposed in the anterior portion of the garment, and a second therapy electrode disposed in the posterior portion of the garment, the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode electrically coupled to at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components; and

at least two sensing electrodes operatively coupled to at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components, the at least two sensing electrodes configured to be worn substantially continuously.

25. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 24, wherein at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components includes an external defibrillator.

26. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 24, wherein the at least two sensing electrodes couple to the garment with snaps.

27. A wearable therapeutic device comprising:

a garment configured to be worn on a torso of a patient, the garment having an anterior portion and a posterior portion and configured to house

at least two therapeutic device components,

a first therapy electrode disposed in the anterior portion of the garment, and

a second therapy electrode disposed in the posterior portion of the garment, the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode electrically coupled to at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components; and

a first sensing electrode and a second sensing electrode operatively coupled to

at least one of the at least two therapeutic device components;

wherein at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode, and the first sensing electrode and the second sensing electrode is at least one of woven into the garment and comprises a textile material.

28. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 27, further comprising an alarm module configured to alert the patient of an impending defibrillation shock from the defibrillator component to be delivered by at least one of the first therapy electrode and the second therapy electrode.

29. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 28, further comprising a user interface including an actuator that, when actuated by the patient, causes the impending defibrillation shock to be aborted.

30. The wearable therapeutic device of claim 27, wherein the at least two therapeutic device components are separate from each other.
