Abstract

Video and corresponding metadata is accessed. Events of interest within the video are identified based on the corresponding metadata, and best scenes are identified based on the identified events of interest. A video summary can be generated including one or more of the identified best scenes. The video summary can be generated using a video summary template with slots corresponding to video clips selected from among sets of candidate video clips. Best scenes can also be identified by receiving an indication of an event of interest within video from a user during the capture of the video. Metadata patterns representing activities identified within video clips can be identified within other videos, which can subsequently be associated with the identified activities.

Claims

1. A method for identifying scenes in captured video for inclusion in a video summary, the method comprising;

accessing metadata associated with a video, the accessed metadata representative of capture of the video;

identifying a plurality of events of interest within the video based on the accessed metadata;

for each identified event of interest, identifying a best scene in the video associated with the identified event of interest, the identified best scene comprising a threshold amount of video occurring before and after a video frame or portion corresponding to the identified event of interest; and

selecting one or more identified best scenes for inclusion in a video summary.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request for a video summary from the user; and

generating a video summary including a plurality of selected best scenes.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein generating the video summary comprises concatenating the plurality of selected best scenes.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the accessed metadata is generated by a camera during the capture of the video.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the accessed metadata comprises telemetry data describing a motion of the camera during the capture of the video.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the accessed metadata comprises location data describing a location of the camera during the capture of the video.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the accessed metadata comprises biometric data describing characteristics of a user of the camera during the capture of the video.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the accessed metadata is accessed from an external entity after the capture of the video.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the accessed metadata comprises environment data describing characteristics of an environment in which the video was captured.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

ranking the identified best scenes based on a likelihood that the identified best scene will be of interest to a user;

wherein the selected one or more best scenes are selected based on the ranking.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting one or more identified best scenes comprises:

presenting the identified best scenes to the user; and

receiving, from the user, a selection of one or more identified best scenes.

12. A system for identifying scenes in captured video for inclusion in a video summary, the system comprising;

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions configured to, when executed;

access metadata associated with a video, the accessed metadata representative of capture of the video;

identify a plurality of events of interest within the video based on the accessed metadata;

for each identified event of interest, identify a best scene in the video associated with the identified event of interest, the identified best scene comprising a threshold amount of video occurring before and after a video frame or portion corresponding to the identified event of interest; and

select one or more identified best scenes for inclusion in a video summary; and

a processor configured to execute the instructions.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the instructions are further configured to:

receive a request for a video summary from the user; and

generate a video summary including a plurality of selected best scenes.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the accessed metadata is generated by a camera during the capture of the video and comprises one or more of:

telemetry data describing a motion of the camera during the capture of the video, location data describing a location of the camera during the capture of the video, and biometric data describing characteristics of a user of the camera during the capture of the video.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the accessed metadata is accessed from an external entity after the capture of the video and comprises environment data describing characteristics of an environment in which the video was captured.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the instructions are further configured to:

rank the identified best scenes based on a likelihood that the identified best scene will be of interest to a user;

wherein the selected one or more best scenes are selected based on the ranking.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions for identifying scenes in captured video for inclusion in a video summary, the instructions configured to, when executed:

access metadata associated with a video, the accessed metadata representative of capture of the video;

identify a plurality of events of interest within the video based on the accessed metadata;

for each identified event of interest, identify a best scene in the video associated with the identified event of interest, the identified best scene comprising a threshold amount of video occurring before and after a video frame or portion corresponding to the identified event of interest; and

select one or more identified best scenes for inclusion in a video summary.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the instructions are further configured to:

receive a request for a video summary from the user; and

generate a video summary including a plurality of selected best scenes.

19. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the accessed metadata is generated by a camera during the capture of the video and comprises one or more of:

telemetry data describing a motion of the camera during the capture of the video, location data describing a location of the camera during the capture of the video, and biometric data describing characteristics of a user of the camera during the capture of the video.

20. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the accessed metadata is accessed from an external entity after the capture of the video and comprises environment data describing characteristics of an environment in which the video was captured.

21. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the instructions are further configured to:

rank the identified best scenes based on a likelihood that the identified best scene will be of interest to a user;

wherein the selected one or more best scenes are selected based on the ranking.
