Abstract

A data transfer system includes a virtual printer driver to receive a report from a first system, the report in the form of a print job, and to generate an electronic document representative of the report; and an extraction module to extract a parameter from the electronic document, format the parameter in a first format, and provide the parameter in the first format to a second system.

Claims

1. A data transfer system comprising:

a virtual printer driver to receive a report from a first system, the report in the form of a print job, and to generate an electronic document representative of the report; and

an extraction module to extract a parameter from the electronic document, format the parameter in a first format, and provide the parameter in the first format to a second system.

2. The data transfer system of claim 1, wherein the electronic document includes instructions that, when interpreted, provide a visual representation of the report.

3. The data transfer system of claim 2, wherein the extraction module is to identify at least one of a keyword, format information and location information in the visual representation.

4. The data transfer system of claim 3, wherein the extraction module is to:

identify a keyword in the visual representation;

identify a region, based on a location of the keyword; and

extract a parameter from the identified region.

5. The data transfer system of claim 4, wherein the extraction module is to use format information to identify the region.

6. The data transfer system of claim 1, wherein the report, when printed, is to include a textual description of the parameters.

7. The data transfer system of claim 1, wherein the first system is a print service provider, the report describes a print production job, and the second system is a production manager.

8. The data transfer system of claim 1, wherein the report is a job ticket.

9. A system comprising:

a print service provider system to generate a report in the form of a print job;

a virtual printer driver to receive the report, and to generate an electronic document representative of the report;

an extraction module to extract a parameter from the electronic document, and to format the parameter in a first format; and

a production manager to receive the parameters in the first format from the extraction module.

10. A method of transferring data, the method comprising:

receiving, at a virtual printer driver, a report from a first system;

generating, by the virtual printer driver, an electronic document representative of the report;

extracting a parameter from the electronic document;

formatting the parameter in a first format; and

providing the parameter in the first format to a second system.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the electronic document includes instructions that, when interpreted, provide a visual representation of the report.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the extracting includes at least one of a identifying a keyword, identifying format information and identifying location information in the visual representation.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the extraction includes:

identify a keyword in the visual representation;

identify a region, based on a location of the keyword; and

extract a parameter from the identified region.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the report, when printed, is to include a textual description of the parameters.

15. The method of claim 10, wherein the first system is a print service provider, the report describes a print production job, and the second system is a production manager.
