Abstract

The disclosed method and device are directed to navigation, by a dual display communication device, through display objects.

Claims

23. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a gesture capture region of one or more first and second touch sensitive screens or a touch sensitive display of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, a first gesture, wherein the gesture capture region includes an area or region of the touch sensitive screen that is outside of the touch sensitive display of the touch sensitive screen;

in response to receiving the first gesture, ceasing to display a first displayed desktop on the first touch sensitive display of the communication device and commencing to display the first displayed desktop on the second touch sensitive display of the communication device;

receiving, by the other of the gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens or the touch sensitive display of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, a second gesture; and

in response to receiving the second gesture, ceasing to display a first displayed window of an application on the first touch sensitive display of the communication device and commencing to display the first displayed window of the application on the second touch sensitive display of the communication device.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the desktop is one of a plurality of an ordered set of desktops.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the first gesture is received by the gesture capture region, wherein the gesture capture region is unable to display any displayed image, and wherein the application window is one of a plurality of an ordered set of windows.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein a gesture received by the gesture capture region enables navigation through an ordered set of desktops or windows and a gesture received by the touch sensitive display enables navigation through an ordered set of the other of desktops or windows.

27. The method of claim 23, wherein the communication device is in the opened state.

28. The method of claim 23, wherein the received first gesture is a drag gesture, wherein the first and second touch sensitive displays are each in the portrait display orientation, wherein the first touch sensitive display thereafter displays a second displayed desktop different from a first displayed desktop, wherein a third displayed desktop different from the first displayed desktop was previously displayed by the second touch sensitive display, wherein the first and second displayed desktops, in response, are in active positions and the third displayed desktop is in an inactive position.

29. A non-transient computer readable medium comprising processor executable instructions operable to perform the steps of claim 23.

30. A method, comprising:

determining, by a sensor, that a dual display communication device is in an open state, wherein, in the open state, a first touch sensitive display of a first touch sensitive screen is enabled and a second touch sensitive display of a second touch sensitive display is enabled;

receiving, by the touch sensitive display of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens or a gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, a first gesture, wherein the gesture capture region includes an area or region of the touch sensitive screen that is outside of the touch sensitive display of the touch sensitive screen;

in response to receiving the first gesture, ceasing to display a first displayed desktop of a desktop stack on the first touch sensitive display and displaying a different second displayed desktop of the desktop stack on the first touch sensitive display;

in response to receiving the first gesture, ceasing to display the different second displayed desktop of the desktop stack on the second touch sensitive display and displaying a different third desktop of the desktop stack on the second touch sensitive display;

receiving, by the other of the gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens or the touch sensitive display of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, a second gesture; and

in response to receiving the second gesture, ceasing to display a first displayed window of an application on the first touch sensitive display of the communication device and commencing to display the first displayed window of the application on the second touch sensitive display of the communication device.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the first gesture is received by a gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, and wherein the first and second desktops are adjacent members of an ordered set of desktops in a desktop stack.

32. The method of claim 30, wherein the first gesture received enables navigation through the ordered set of desktops in the desktop stack.

33. The method of claim 30, wherein the received first gesture is a drag gesture, wherein the first touch sensitive display is in the portrait display orientation, wherein the first displayed desktop was previously in an active state and the second displayed desktop in an inactive state, and wherein, in response, the first displayed desktop is now in the inactive state and the second displayed desktop is now in the active state.

34. A non-transient computer readable medium comprising processor executable instructions operable to perform the steps of claim 30.

35. A dual display communication device, comprising:

a first touch sensitive screen having one or more of a gesture capture region and a first touch sensitive display, wherein the first touch sensitive screen is configured to receive a gesture and display at least one desktop of a desktop stack;

a second touch sensitive screen having one or more of a gesture capture region and a second touch sensitive display, wherein the second touch sensitive screen is configured to receive a gesture and display at least one desktop of the desktop stack;

and

middleware operable to perform the following operations;

determine, based on a sensor, that the dual display communication device is in an open state, wherein, in the open state, the first touch sensitive display is enabled and the second touch sensitive display is enabled;

receive, by a gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens or the touch sensitive display of the one or more first and second touch sensitive displays, a first gesture, wherein the gesture capture region includes an area or region of the touch sensitive screen that is outside of the touch sensitive display of the touch sensitive screen;

in response to receiving the first gesture, ceasing to display a first displayed desktop on the first touch sensitive display of the communication device and commencing to display the first displayed desktop on the second touch sensitive display of the communication device;

receive, by the other of the gesture capture region or the touch sensitive display, a second gesture; and

in response to receiving the second gesture, ceasing to display a first displayed window of an application on the first touch sensitive display of the communication device and commencing to display the first displayed window of the application on the second touch sensitive display of the communication device.

36. The device of claim 35, wherein the first gesture is received by the touch sensitive display of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, and wherein the first displayed desktop is one of a plurality of an ordered set of desktops.

The device of claim 35, wherein the second gesture is received by the gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, wherein the gesture capture region is unable to display any displayed image, and wherein the application window of the application is one of a plurality of an ordered set of windows.

38. The device of claim 35, wherein the first and second desktops are adjacent members of an ordered set of desktop images.

39. The device of claim 38, wherein the second gesture is received by the gesture capture region of the one or more first and second touch sensitive screens, wherein the gesture capture region is unable to display any displayed image, and wherein the first and second windows are adjacent members of an ordered set of windows.

40. The device of claim 35, wherein the received first gesture is a drag gesture, wherein the first touch sensitive display is in the portrait display orientation, wherein the communication device has opened and closed states, wherein the first displayed desktop was previously in an active state and the second displayed desktop in an inactive state, and wherein, in response, the first displayed desktop is now in the inactive state and the second displayed desktop is now in the active state.

41. The device of claim 35, wherein the received first gesture is a drag gesture, wherein a gesture received by the gesture capture region enables navigation through an ordered set of desktops and a gesture received by the touch sensitive display enables navigation through an ordered set of windows.
