Abstract

Radio network technology and display thereof can be managed when multiple services and radio network technologies are available to a multi-technology mobile device. Management relies at least in part on a subscriber profile that comprises a network selection profile constructed through market policy, subscriber policy, and application policy for radio technology utilization. Network preference(s) profile is generated on per subscriber, or per subscriber type, basis and is conveyed to a subscriber station over the air. Initial subscriber profile can be delivered at a time of provisioning a multi-technology mobile device, and updated based at least upon subscriber demand, a schedule established by a network operator or service provider, or an event related to coverage area relocation or contracted services. Radio technology preferences and display of associated technologies available to a multi-technology mobile device can be controlled dynamically on a per-call and/or per-application basis.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising;

determining disparate radio technologies that are available to facilitate a transmission of communication data with a user equipment, and

facilitating, via a display of the user equipment, a rendering of network indicator data that represents the disparate radio technologies.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprise:

in response to determining a change in a radio technology of the disparate radio technologies that is utilized to facilitate the transmission, updating the rendering of the network indicator data.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the network indicator data comprises a network identifier that represents a radio technology of the disparate radio technologies that the user equipment has been authorized to utilize.

4. The user equipment of claim 1, wherein the determining comprises determining the disparate radio technologies in accordance with an idle mode of operation of the user equipment.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the determining comprises determining the disparate radio technologies based on profile data received from a network device.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the operations further comprise:

facilitating a scan of electromagnetic radiation bands, and wherein the determining is based on a result of the scan.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the facilitating comprises facilitating the scan periodically after a defined time period.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the determining comprises determining the disparate radio technologies based on data received via a system information message that has been broadcasted by a network device.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the rendering comprises differentiating a first rendering of a first network indicator from a second rendering of a second network indicator, wherein the first network indicator represents a first radio technology of the disparate radio technologies that is to be utilized to facilitate the transmission between the user equipment and a first cellular network device and wherein the second network indicator represents a second radio technology of the disparate radio technologies that is available to facilitate the transmission between the user equipment and a second cellular network device.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the first rendering is rendered more prominently than the second rendering.

11. A method, comprising:

determining, by a user equipment comprising a processor, icons representing respective radio technologies that are available to facilitate a transmission of communication data with a user equipment; and

facilitating, by the user equipment, a presentation of the icons via a graphical interface of the user equipment.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

in response to determining that a radio technology of the respective radio technologies that has been employed to facilitate the transmission is modified, updating, by the user equipment, the presentation.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the determining comprises determining the icons based on classification data associated with an application of the user equipment.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the determining comprises determining the icons based on subscriber segment data representing a subscriber segment associated with the user equipment.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the determining comprises determining the icons based on mode data indicative of an operating mode of the user equipment.

16. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

verifying, by the user equipment, that the user equipment is authorized to utilize the respective radio technologies.

17. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

facilitating, by the user equipment, a scan of electromagnetic radiation bands, wherein the determining is based on a result of the scan.

18. A machine-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

determining different radio technologies that are available to facilitate a transmission of communication data with a user equipment; and

facilitating a display of network descriptors indicative of the different radio technologies via a graphical interface of the user equipment.

19. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the determining comprises determining the different radio technologies based on mode data indicative of an operating mode of the user equipment.

20. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the determining comprises determining the different radio technologies based on classification data associated with an application associated with the communication data.
