Abstract

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may be a UE that performs a PTT/PTX call setup for communication via MBMS. In a first configuration, the UE sets up a unicast bearer with an eNB, and sends group call setup signaling to the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer. In a second configuration, the UE sets up a unicast bearer with an eNB, and receives group call setup signaling from the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer. In a third configuration, the UE receives a group page while in an RRC idle state, and receives group call setup signaling based on information in the group page.

Claims

1. A method of performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

setting up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

sending group call setup signaling to the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the SIP invitation request comprises a list of target user equipments (UEs).

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the setting up the unicast bearer comprises sending a radio resource control (RRC) connection request, receiving an RRC connection setup response, and sending an RRC connection complete message, wherein the group call setup signaling is sent with the RRC connection complete message.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

7. The method claim 6, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an indication that PTT/PTX communication can be sent, an indication that PTT/PTX communication cannot be sent, or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication can be sent.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the talk burst control message is received through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

sending a first talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs);

receiving a second talk burst control message encrypted based on a second set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs) different than the first set of MTKs;

sending PTT/PTX data based on a third set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs and the second set of MTKs.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending PTT/PTX data to be transmitted to one or more target UEs over an MBMS bearer.

11. A method of performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

setting up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

receiving group call setup signaling from the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the setting up the unicast bearer comprises sending a radio resource control (RRC) connection request, receiving an RRC connection setup response, and sending an RRC connection complete message, wherein the group call setup signaling is received with the RRC connection setup response.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising receiving a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

16. The method claim 15, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an identity of a user sending the PTT/PTX communication or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication is received.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the talk burst control message is received through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

18. The method of claim 11, further comprising receiving PTT/PTX data over an MBMS bearer.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein a session of the MBMS is always on with a preconfigured temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) or MBMS user service identifier.

20. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

receiving a talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs); and

receiving PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs.

21. A method of performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

receiving a group page while in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state; and

receiving group call setup signaling based on information in the group page.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the group page comprises a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI), the method further comprises tuning to an MBMS bearer corresponding to the TMGI, and the group call setup signaling is received on the MBMS bearer.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the service announcement and discovery information comprises a security key.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the security key is an MBMS session key (MSK) protected by an MBMS group key (MGK).

26. The method of claim 21, wherein the group call setup signaling is received on an MBMS bearer.

27. The method of claim 21, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

28. The method of claim 21, further comprising receiving a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

29. The method claim 28, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an identity of a user sending the PTT/PTX communication or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication is received.

30. The method of claim 28, wherein the talk burst control message is received through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

31. The method of claim 21, further comprising receiving PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer.

32. The method of claim 21, wherein a session of the MBMS is always on with a preconfigured temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) or MBMS user service identifier.

33. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

receiving a talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs); and

receiving PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs.

34. A method of performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

setting up an MBMS session for PTT/PTX communication for an originating user equipment (UE) and target UEs; and

sending group call setup signaling to the originating UE and the target UEs.

35. The method of claim 34, further comprising receiving a list of the target UEs for PTT/PTX communication from the originating UE.

36. The method of claim 34, further comprising:

determining whether a base station should be part of at least one of a multicast broadcast service area or a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) area based on a location of the originating UE and the target UEs; and

sending to the base station information indicating whether the base station should be part of the at least one of the multicast broadcast service area or the MBSFN area.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the MBMS session is set up in the at least one of the multicast broadcast service area or the MBSFN area.

38. The method of claim 37, further comprising modifying the at least one of the multicast broadcast service area or the MBSFN area based on count information associated with the target UEs.

39. The method of claim 34, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

40. The method of claim 39, wherein the service announcement and discovery information comprises a security key.

41. The method of claim 40, wherein the security key is an MBMS session key (MSK) protected by an MBMS group key (MGK).

42. The method of claim 34, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

43. The method of claim 34, wherein the group call setup signaling is sent on an MBMS bearer.

44. The method of claim 34, further comprising setting up a unicast bearer with the target UEs by:

receiving a radio resource control (RRC) connection request;

sending an RRC connection setup response; and

receiving an RRC connection complete message,

wherein the group call setup signaling is sent with the RRC connection setup response.

45. The method of claim 34, further comprising sending a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

46. The method claim 45, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an identity of a user sending the PTT/PTX communication or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication is received.

47. The method claim 45, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an indication that PTT/PTX communication can be sent, an indication that PTT/PTX communication cannot be sent, or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication can be sent.

48. The method of claim 45, wherein the talk burst control message is sent through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

49. The method of claim 34, further comprising sending PTT/PTX data, received from the originating UE, on an MBMS bearer to the target UEs.

50. The method of claim 34, wherein a session of the MBMS is always on with a preconfigured temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) or MBMS user service identifier.

51. The method of claim 34, further comprising:

sending a talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs); and

sending PTT/PTX data over MBMS based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs.

52. The method of claim 34, further comprising sending a group page to the target UEs.

53. The method of claim 52, wherein the group page comprises a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI), and the group call setup signaling is sent on an MBMS bearer corresponding to the TMGI.

54. The method of claim 34, further comprising:

receiving a first talk burst control message from the originating UE, the first talk burst control message being encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs);

sending a second talk burst control message to the originating UE, the second talk burst control message being encrypted based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs;

sending a third talk burst control message to the target UEs, the third talk burst control message being encrypted based on the second set of MTKs;

receiving PTT/PTX data encrypted based on a third set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs and the second set of MTKs; and

sending the received PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer.

55. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

means for setting up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

means for sending group call setup signaling to the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

56. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

57. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

58. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein the SIP invitation request comprises a list of target user equipments (UEs).

59. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the means for setting up the unicast bearer is configured to send a radio resource control (RRC) connection request, to receive an RRC connection setup response, and to send an RRC connection complete message, wherein the group call setup signaling is sent with the RRC connection complete message.

60. The apparatus of claim 55, further comprising means for receiving a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

61. The apparatus claim 60, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an indication that PTT/PTX communication can be sent, an indication that PTT/PTX communication cannot be sent, or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication can be sent.

62. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the talk burst control message is received through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

63. The apparatus of claim 55, further comprising:

means for sending a first talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs);

means for receiving a second talk burst control message encrypted based on a second set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs) different than the first set of MTKs;

means for sending PTT/PTX data based on a third set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs and the second set of MTKs.

64. The apparatus of claim 55, further comprising means for sending PTT/PTX data to be transmitted to one or more target UEs over an MBMS bearer.

65. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

means for setting up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

means for receiving group call setup signaling from the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

66. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

67. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

68. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the means for setting up the unicast bearer is configured to send a radio resource control (RRC) connection request, to receive an RRC connection setup response, and to send an RRC connection complete message, wherein the group call setup signaling is received with the RRC connection setup response.

69. The apparatus of claim 65, further comprising means for receiving a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

70. The apparatus claim 69, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an identity of a user sending the PTT/PTX communication or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication is received.

71. The apparatus of claim 69, wherein the talk burst control message is received through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

72. The apparatus of claim 65, further comprising means for receiving PTT/PTX data over an MBMS bearer.

73. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein a session of the MBMS is always on with a preconfigured temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) or MBMS user service identifier.

74. The apparatus of claim 65, further comprising:

means for receiving a talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs); and

means for receiving PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs.

75. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

means for receiving a group page while in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state; and

means for receiving group call setup signaling based on information in the group page.

76. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein the group page comprises a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI), the apparatus further comprises means for tuning to an MBMS bearer corresponding to the TMGI, and the group call setup signaling is received on the MBMS bearer.

77. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

78. The apparatus of claim 77, wherein the service announcement and discovery information comprises a security key.

79. The apparatus of claim 78, wherein the security key is an MBMS session key (MSK) protected by an MBMS group key (MGK).

80. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein the group call setup signaling is received on an MBMS bearer.

81. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

82. The apparatus of claim 75, further comprising means for receiving a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

83. The apparatus claim 82, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an identity of a user sending the PTT/PTX communication or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication is received.

84. The apparatus of claim 82, wherein the talk burst control message is received through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

85. The apparatus of claim 75, further comprising means for receiving PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer.

86. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein a session of the MBMS is always on with a preconfigured temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) or MBMS user service identifier.

87. The apparatus of claim 75, further comprising:

means for receiving a talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs); and

means for receiving PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs.

88. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

means for setting up an MBMS session for PTT/PTX communication for an originating user equipment (UE) and target UEs; and

means for sending group call setup signaling to the originating UE and the target UEs.

89. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising means for receiving a list of the target UEs for PTT/PTX communication from the originating UE.

90. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising:

means for determining whether a base station should be part of at least one of a multicast broadcast service area or a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) area based on a location of the originating UE and the target UEs; and

means for sending to the base station information indicating whether the base station should be part of the at least one of the multicast broadcast service area or the MBSFN area.

91. The apparatus of claim 90, wherein the MBMS session is set up in the at least one of the multicast broadcast service area or the MBSFN area.

92. The apparatus of claim 91, further comprising means for modifying the at least one of the multicast broadcast service area or the MBSFN area based on count information associated with the target UEs.

93. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises service announcement and discovery information for an MBMS bearer.

94. The apparatus of claim 93, wherein the service announcement and discovery information comprises a security key.

95. The apparatus of claim 94, wherein the security key is an MBMS session key (MSK) protected by an MBMS group key (MGK).

96. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein the group call setup signaling comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) invitation request.

97. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein the group call setup signaling is sent on an MBMS bearer.

98. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising means for setting up a unicast bearer with the target UEs by:

receiving a radio resource control (RRC) connection request;

sending an RRC connection setup response; and

receiving an RRC connection complete message,

wherein the group call setup signaling is sent with the RRC connection setup response.

99. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising means for sending a talk burst control message through an MBMS bearer.

100. The apparatus claim 99, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an identity of a user sending the PTT/PTX communication or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication is received.

101. The apparatus claim 99, wherein the talk burst control message comprises at least one of an indication that PTT/PTX communication can be sent, an indication that PTT/PTX communication cannot be sent, or scheduling information for indicating when PTT/PTX communication can be sent.

102. The apparatus of claim 99, wherein the talk burst control message is sent through one of a user datagram protocol (UDP), a session initiation protocol (SIP), a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), a file delivery table (FDT) instance, or open mobile alliance (OMA) signaling.

103. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising means for sending PTT/PTX data, received from the originating UE, on an MBMS bearer to the target UEs.

104. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein a session of the MBMS is always on with a preconfigured temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) or MBMS user service identifier.

105. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising:

means for sending a talk burst control message encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs); and

means for sending PTT/PTX data over MBMS based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs.

106. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising means for sending a group page to the target UEs.

107. The apparatus of claim 106, wherein the group page comprises a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI), and the group call setup signaling is sent on an MBMS bearer corresponding to the TMGI.

108. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising:

means for receiving a first talk burst control message from the originating UE, the first talk burst control message being encrypted based on a first set of MBMS traffic keys (MTKs);

means for sending a second talk burst control message to the originating UE, the second talk burst control message being encrypted based on a second set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs;

means for sending a third talk burst control message to the target UEs, the third talk burst control message being encrypted based on the second set of MTKs;

means for receiving PTT/PTX data encrypted based on a third set of MTKs different than the first set of MTKs and the second set of MTKs; and

means for sending the received PTT/PTX data on an MBMS bearer.

109. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a processing system configured to;

set up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

send group call setup signaling to the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

110. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a processing system configured to;

set up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

receive group call setup signaling from the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

111. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a processing system configured to;

receive a group page while in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state; and

receive group call setup signaling based on information in the group page.

112. An apparatus for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a processing system configured to;

set up an MBMS session for PTT/PTX communication for an originating user equipment (UE) and target UEs; and

send group call setup signaling to the originating UE and the target UEs.

113. A computer program product for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising code for;

setting up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

sending group call setup signaling to the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

114. A computer program product for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising code for;

setting up a unicast bearer with an evolved Node B (eNB); and

receiving group call setup signaling from the eNB while setting up the unicast bearer.

115. A computer program product for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising code for;

receiving a group page while in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state; and

receiving group call setup signaling based on information in the group page.

116. A computer program product for performing a push to talk (PTT)/push to everything (PTX) call setup for communication via Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising code for;

setting up an MBMS session for PTT/PTX communication for an originating user equipment (UE) and target UEs; and

sending group call setup signaling to the originating UE and the target UEs.
