Abstract

Voice to text (VTT) call transcription technologies are provided. At least one server receives a request from a mobile device to initiate a transcription of voice communication of a call between the mobile device and another device. The server, responsive to the request, establishes a bridged communication session between the server, the mobile device, the other device and a VTT system. The bridged communication session includes the voice communication of the call that is exchanged between the mobile device and the other device. The VTT system converts the voice communication of the call in the bridged communication session to a text transcription. The VTT system sends the text transcription of the voice communication of the call, for example, to the first mobile device.

Claims

1. A method comprising steps of:

receiving, by at least one server through a wireless communication network, a request from a mobile device to initiate a transcription of voice communication of a call between the mobile device and another device;

responsive to the request, establishing, by the at least one server, a bridged communication session over the wireless communication network between the at least one server, the mobile device, the other device and a voice to text (VTT) system, the bridged communication session including the call between the mobile device and the other device, the VTT system configured to convert the voice communication of the call in the bridged communication session to a text transcription; and

sending, by the VTT system via the wireless communication network, the text transcription to the mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the text transcription is sent to the mobile device via at least one of a short messaging service, an enhanced messaging service, a multimedia messaging service or a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)-based service.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the call is associated with a call session between the mobile device and the other device established prior to the request to initiate the transcription, the call session being terminated when the bridged communication session is established.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of receiving the request to initiate the transcription includes:

receiving, by the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a message from the mobile device to initiate the call between the mobile device and the other device, the message including the request to initiate the transcription, the bridged communication session being established responsive to the request in the received message.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the request to initiate the transcription is included without user input in the message to initiate the call, based on at least one of:

information associated with a user of the other device, a type of phone number being called, a predetermined time period, a predetermined day or a location of the mobile device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of receiving the request to initiate the transcription includes:

receiving, by the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a message from the other device to initiate the call between the mobile device and the other device,

sending by the at least one server, a call request to the mobile device to join the call, responsive to the message from the other device; and

receiving by the at least one server from the mobile device, the request to initiate the transcription, responsive to the call request.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, by the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a further request from at least one of the mobile device and the other device to terminate the bridged communication session between the mobile device, the other device and the VTT system; and

responsive to the further request, sending an instruction by the at least one server, through the wireless communication network, to each of the mobile device, the other device and the VTT system to terminate connection to the bridged communication session.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, by the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a further request from at least one of the mobile device and the other device to terminate the text transcription of the call;

responsive to the further request, sending an instruction by the at least one server, through the wireless communication network, to the VTT system to terminate connection to the bridged communication session; and

maintaining the call between the mobile device and the other device on the bridged communication session after the connection of the VTT system is terminated.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

responsive to the request, establishing, by the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a transcription session between the mobile device and the VTT system, prior to establishing the bridged communication session;

placing, by the at least one server, the transcription session on hold during the establishing of the bridged communication session; and

sending, by the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a notification message to the mobile device when the VTT system has joined the bridged communication session, the mobile device terminating the transcription session placed on hold responsive to the notification message.

10. A mobile device, comprising:

a wireless mobile transceiver;

at least one user interface element configured to receive a user input and to provide information output to the user;

a processor;

a memory accessible to the processor; and

programming in the memory, wherein execution of the programming by the processor configures the mobile device to perform functions, including functions to;

send, via the wireless mobile transceiver, to at least one server through a wireless communication network, a request to initiate a transcription of voice communication of a call between the mobile device and another device,

receive, responsive to the request, from the at least one server via the wireless mobile transceiver, an invitation to join a bridged communication session over the wireless communication network with the at least one server, the mobile device, the other device and a voice to text (VTT) system, the bridged communication session including the call between the mobile device and the other device, the VTT system configured to convert the voice communication of the call in the bridged communication session to a text transcription,

receiving, via the wireless mobile transceiver, from the VTT system through the wireless communication network, the text transcription of the voice communication of the call, responsive to joining the bridged communication session, and

displaying, via the at least one user interface element, the text transcription of the voice communication on the mobile device.

11. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein:

the at least one user interface element is configured to receive a request from a user to initiate or join the call between the mobile device and the other device, and

the mobile device is configured, responsive to the request from the user, to automatically trigger sending of the request to initiate the transcription of the voice communication of the call.

The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the request to initiate the transcription is automatically triggered based on at least one of information associated with a user of the other device, a type of phone number being called, a predetermined time period, a predetermined day or a location of the mobile device.

13. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein:

the at least one user interface element is configured to receive, during the call between the mobile device and the other device, a request from a user for the transcription of the voice communication of the call, and

the mobile device is configured to send the request to initiate the transcription responsive to the request from the user.

14. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein:

the at least one user interface element is configured to receive a request from a user to at least one of terminate the bridged communication session or terminate the text transcription by the VTT system, and

the mobile device is configured to send, via the wireless mobile transceiver, a termination request to the at least one server responsive to the request from the user.

15. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein the text transcription is displayed on the at least one user interface element synchronous with the voice communication of the call.

16. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein the mobile device is configured to:

establish, responsive to the request, via the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a transcription session with the VTT system, prior to joining the bridged communication session,

place, via the at least one server, the transcription session on hold during establishment of the bridged communication session,

receive, from the at least one server through the wireless communication network, a notification message when the VTT system has joined the bridged communication session, and

terminate the transcription session with the VTT system placed on hold responsive to the notification message.

17. A non-transitory computer readable medium that stores instructions executable by one or more network devices in a wireless communication network to cause the one or more network devices to perform functions, including functions to:

receive, through the wireless communication network, a request from a mobile device to initiate a transcription of voice communication of a call between the mobile device and another device;

responsive to the request, establish a bridged communication session over the wireless communication network between the one or more network devices, the mobile device, the other device and a voice to text (VTT) system, the bridged communication session including the call between the mobile device and the other device, the VTT system configured to convert the voice communication of the call in the bridged communication session to a text transcription; and

send, via the wireless communication network, the text transcription of the voice communication to the mobile device.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the functions further include functions to:

receive, through the wireless communication network, a message from the mobile device to initiate the call between the mobile device and the other device, the message including the request to initiate the transcription, the bridged communication session being established responsive to the request in the received message.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the call is associated with a call session between the mobile device and the other device established prior to the request to initiate the transcription, the call session being terminated when the bridged communication session is established.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the functions further include functions to:

receive, through the wireless communication network, a further request from at least one of the mobile device and the other device to terminate the text transcription of the call;

responsive to the further request, send an instruction, through the wireless communication network, to the VTT system to terminate connection to the bridged communication session; and

maintain the call between the mobile device and the other device on the bridged communication session after the connection of the VTT system is terminated.
