TRANSMITTERS FOR WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION
First Claim
1. A transmitter device for wireless power transmission, the transmitter comprising:
- a plurality of antennas configured to transmit power waves, wherein at least one antenna is a communications antenna configured to transmit and receive communication signals using a wireless communications protocol;
a communication circuit coupled to the communications antenna and configured to receive communication signals representing status information from a receiver associated with an electronic device, wherein the status information includes a location of the receiver;
an integrated circuit connected to the antennas and configured to generate the power waves and to adjust a phase and a gain of each respective power wave; and
a microprocessor configured to control the integrated circuit configured to generate and adjust the phase and the gain of the power waves to form one or more pockets of energy at the location of the receiver resulting from a constructive interference pattern produced by converging the power waves at the location, and configured to control the communication circuit transmitting and receiving the communication signals containing the status information,whereby the transmitter is configured to wirelessly transmit the power waves to converge at a location associated with the receiver to form pockets of energy for capturing by the receiver, and whereby the transmitter is configured to adjust the phase and the gain of the power waves to converge at a location associated with the receiver to form pockets of energy for reception by the receiver.

Abstract
The embodiments described herein include a transmitter that transmits a power transmission signal (e.g., radio frequency (RF) signal waves) to create a three-dimensional pocket of energy. At least one receiver can be connected to or integrated into electronic devices and receive power from the pocket of energy. The transmitter can locate the at least one receiver in a three-dimensional space using a communication medium (e.g., Bluetooth® technology). The transmitter generates a waveform to create a pocket of energy around each of the at least one receiver. The transmitter uses an algorithm to direct, focus, and control the waveform in three dimensions. The receiver can convert the transmission signals (e.g., RF signals) into electricity for powering an electronic device. Accordingly, the embodiments for wireless power transmission can allow powering and charging a plurality of electrical devices without wires.

16. A method of transmitting power wirelessly, the method comprising:
-
transmitting, by an array of antennas of a transmitter, one or more power waves responsive to receiving an advertisement signal from a receiver identifying the receiver, wherein the advertisement signal is a first communication signal of one or more communication signals received from the receiver; generating, by a circuit of the transmitter, two or more power waves based on status information represented by the one or more communication signals, wherein each respective power wave has a phase and a gain to generate a constructive interference pattern at a location associated with the receiver, thereby forming a pocket a energy at the location associated with the receiver; adjusting, by the transmitter, the phase and the gain of the two or more power waves responsive to the status information of the communication signals from the receiver, wherein the transmitter adjusts the phase and the gain to improve precision of locating the pocket of energy; and transmitting, by the transmitter, the two or more power waves based on an adjusted gain and an adjusted phase to converge to form the pocket of energy at the location of the receiver. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24)
