Abstract

Systems, methods and instrumentalities are disclosed for superposed signaling for bandwidth efficiency in wireless communications. Homogeneous and heterogeneous signals may be superposed on the same channel. Superposed signals may comprise, for example, multi carrier, frequency division and code division signals, including multiple access, e.g., OFDMA and CDMA, signals. Data for various receivers may be dynamically selected for signal superpositioning, for example, based on radio access technology, communication rate (e.g. high and low rates), distance between transmitter and receiver (e.g. near and far signals). Communication rate and power may be allocated to superposed signals. Interference nulling may be applied, for example, by selecting or excluding spreading codes and/or subcarriers. Nulled locations may be used to transmit critical information. Interference shaping may be applied to modify interference, e.g., by transmitting interference symbols using reserved spreading codes. Support information, e.g., code indices, code length and/or subcarriers, may be signaled to support or optimize performance.

Claims

1. A network entity comprising:

a processor configured, at least in part, to;

determine a first data for a first receiver and a second data for a second receiver;

determine an auxiliary data comprising correlated interference data for providing correlated interference; and

send the first data, the second data and the auxiliary data superposed on the same channel.

2. The network entity of claim 1, wherein the sending comprises:

generating a first signal by applying a first modulation to the first data;

generating a second signal by applying a second modulation to the second data;

generating the auxiliary signal by applying an auxiliary modulation to the auxiliary data; and

transmitting, wirelessly, the first signal, the second signal and the auxiliary signal superposed on the same channel, the sending of the auxiliary data providing the correlated interference.

3. The network entity of claim 2, wherein

the first modulation comprises spread spectrum (SS) modulation using selected codes;

the second modulation comprises multicarrier (MC) modulation using selected subcarriers; and

the auxiliary modulation comprises SS modulation using reserved codes.

4. The network entity of claim 3, wherein at least one of the selected codes and the selected subcarriers provide partial or whole orthogonality between the transmitted first and second signals.

5. The network entity of claim 4, wherein orthogonal subcarriers carry a reference signal.

6. The network entity of claim 3, wherein the auxiliary data is determined based on the first data, the second data and the selected or reserved codes.

7. The network entity of claim 2, further comprising:

the processor configured, at least in part, to;

allocate at least one of a first power and a first rate to the first signal;

allocate at least one of a second power and a second rate to the second signal; and

allocate at least one of an auxiliary power and an auxiliary rate to the auxiliary signal.

8. The network entity of claim 2, further comprising:

the processor configured, at least in part, to;

transmit a control signal that provides support for at least one of interference nulling by a transmitter, interference reshaping by a transmitter or successive interference cancellation by a receiver of the first signal or the second signal.

9. The network entity of claim 2, further comprising:

the processor configured, at least in part, to;

select the first data and the second data for superposing the first signal and the second signal based on at least one of a radio access technology (RAT), a communication rate and a distance between a RAT transmitter and receiver for the first signal or the second signal.

10. A method comprising:

determining a first data for a first receiver and a second data for a second receiver;

determining an auxiliary data comprising correlated interference data; and

sending the first data, the second data and the auxiliary data superposed on the same channel, the sending of the auxiliary data providing correlated interference.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the sending comprises:

generating a first signal by applying a first modulation to the first data;

generating a second signal by applying a second modulation to the second data;

generating the auxiliary signal by applying an auxiliary modulation to the auxiliary data; and

transmitting, wirelessly, the first signal, the second signal and the auxiliary signal superposed on the same channel, the transmitted auxiliary signal shaping interference caused by the transmitted first signal on the transmitted second signal.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein,

the first modulation comprises spread spectrum (SS) modulation using selected codes;

the second modulation comprises multicarrier (MC) modulation using selected subcarriers; and

the auxiliary modulation comprises SS modulation using reserved codes.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

applying interference nulling with the second signal by selectively excluding one or more codes for the first modulation.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

transmitting signal reference information in the second signal at nulled frequency locations.

15. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

transmitting a signal comprising information about at least one of code length, selected codes, excluded codes, reserved codes and code indices for at least one of the first signal and auxiliary signal and subcarrier allocation and modulation for the second signal.

16. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

selecting the first data and the second data based on at least one of a radio access technology (RAT), a communication rate and a distance between a RAT transmitter and receiver for the first signal or the second signal.

17. A method comprising:

determining a first data for superposed transmission in a first signal to be received by a first receiver;

determining a second data for superposed transmission in a second signal to be received by a second receiver; and

determining correlated interference data for superimposing a correlated interference that assists with reception of at least one of the first and second signals by reshaping interference caused by at least one of the transmitted first and second signals.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

selecting spreading codes to modulate the first data; and

selecting reserved spreading codes to modulate the correlated interference.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising:

nulling interference at subcarrier locations in the second signal by excluding spreading codes.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

determining information for signaling to at least one of the first and the second receivers that supports at least one of the interference reshaping and the interference nulling.
