Abstract

A method for (a) delivering wrapped packages of cards, each card selectively including (i) media content, (ii) application functionality and/or (iii) e-commerce related services and (b) displaying the wrap package of cards within an overlay window presented within a web site page and/or an application.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a request for a wrap package from a requesting computing device, the request including a wrap identifier that is associated with the requested wrap package; and

delivering to the requesting computing device, in response to the request, a wrap descriptor that specifies the requested wrap package, the wrap descriptor;

(a) defining a set of cards of the wrap package; and

(b) including a plurality of card descriptors, each card descriptor arranged to define content, a structure and a layout of an associated one of the cards respectively,

wherein the requesting computing device is configured to;

(c) render a runtime instance of the set of cards of the wrap package, generated from the delivered wrap descriptor, in an overlay window appearing within a display associated with the requesting computing device; and

(d) render other content, not included in the wrap package, in a portion of the display outside of the overlay window.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein a wrap cover associated with the wrap package is displayed on the display associated with the requesting computing device and then the runtime instance of the wrap package is displayed in the overlay window after the request for the wrap package is generated and the wrap descriptor is delivered to the requesting device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the request for the wrap package is generated in response to a selection of a wrap cover appearing on the display associated with the requesting computing device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein sizing information is used for defining a size of the overlay window appearing within the display.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the sizing information is specified as a percentage of the display.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein positioning information is used for defining a position of the overlay window appearing within the display.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the positioning information comprises one of the following:

(e) top-aligned;

(f) centered;

or

(g) bottom-aligned.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein pixel width and height information is used for defining a size of a wrap cover appearing within the display associated with the requesting computing device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the other content, not included in the wrap package, rendered in the portion of the display outside of the overlay window comprises one of the following:

(e) web page content;

(f) application content.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the wrap descriptor is either:

(e) a JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) wrap descriptor;

or

(f) a BSON (Binary JavaScript Object Notation) wrap descriptor.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the runtime instance is generated by:

(e) creating an object graph from the wrap descriptor;

(f) generating a document object model from the object graph; and

(g) generating the runtime instance of the set of cards of the wrap package from the document object model.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of cards of the wrap package includes a gallery card configured to display a plurality of gallery items by:

(e) arranging the plurality of gallery items in a vertical sequence; and

(f) sequentially displaying the plurality of gallery items in the vertical sequence in response to navigational inputs.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of cards of the wrap package includes a widget card that presents, when rendered, a widget that appears within a frame in the widget card, the widget configured to interact with a remote widget server while the widget card of the wrap package is consumed.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the wrap descriptor includes a widget card descriptor that corresponds to the widget card, the widget card descriptor including a widget descriptor that defines:

(e) the remote widget server; and

(f) calls for accessing content served by the remote widget server for presentation within the frame appearing in the widget card when rendered.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the widget descriptor further defines one or more of the following:

(e) a height, width and location of the frame appearing in the widget card;

(f) a URL that specifies the remote widget server; and

(g) one or more parameters that are passed between the widget card and the remote widget server.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of the cards of the wrap package include an application card having an application embedded in or associated therewith.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the application comprises of the following:

(e) an online chat function;

(f) a reservation, appointment or booking function for making a reservation, appointment or booking;

(g) an approval function configured for entry of an approval;

h) a data input/entry function for enabling data to be input/entered through the application card;

or

(i) GPS or a positional functionality.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the card descriptors of the wrap descriptor are selectively authored to include one or more component descriptors, the one or more component descriptors selected from the following group of component descriptor types:

(e) container;

(f) text;

(g) image/photo

(h) video;

(i) link;

(j) location/GPS;

(k) widget; and

/or

(l) feed.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the card descriptors includes a feed descriptor that defines a feed for the associated card, the feed descriptor defining a feed source and feed content, wherein, the feed content is retrieved from the feed source and rendered when the associated card is rendered.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the feed descriptor further defines one or more of the following:

(e) a target container within the associated card for presenting the feed content;

(f) a polling frequency for polling the feed source;

(g) a URL that specifies the feed source;

(h) a feed lifecycle; and

/or

(i) one or more feed parameters.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein the wrap package is configured to be rendered within the overlay window appearing on the display so that:

(e) each of the set of cards is each rendered in a same portrait aspect ratio respectively; and

(f) within each card, a same relative positioning of the content is maintained regardless of the size of the overlay window.

22. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of cards of the wrap package are configured to be rendered within the overlay window in one or more linear sequence(s) that extend:

(e) horizontally;

(f) vertically;

(g) both (e) and (f).

23. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of cards of the wrap package includes at least one card having a trigger associated therewith, the trigger invoking a predetermined action.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the predefined action, in response to the trigger, invokes one of the following:

(e) a chat session;

(f) purchase of a displayed item;

(g) an appointment, reservation or booking function;

(h) a GPS/location service;

(i) cul-de-sacing to a target web site;

(j) placement of an item into a shopping cart;

or

(k) a “

one-click”

or analogous buy operation.

25. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of cards of the wrap package selectively include text, photo(s), image(s), and/or video(s), authored to convey a book or magazine like user experience that unfolds as the cards of the wrap package are sequentially browsed in one or more predefined linear sequences.

26. The method of claim 1, wherein the wrap package and the other content, not included in the wrap package and rendered in the second portion of the display, share an interstitial relationship.

27. A method of claim 1, wherein the wrap package rendered in the overlay window is a modal that requires interaction with the wrap package before interaction with the other content, not included in the wrap package and rendered in the second portion of the display, is permitted.

28. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of cards of the wrap package includes at least one transaction card for implementing a transaction while the wrap package is consumed on the requesting computing device, the transaction card implementing the transaction by one of the following:

(e) associating a transaction widget with the transaction card;

(f) cul-de-sacing from the transaction card to a remote server for performing the transaction and then returning to the wrap package;

or

(g) associating a buy function with the transaction card.

29. The method of claim 1, wherein the overlay window and the wrap package are both configured in either:

(a) a portrait aspect ratio;

or

(b) a gallery aspect ratio.

30. The method of claim 1, wherein the wrap package is authored in a first aspect ratio and the overlay window is specified in a second aspect ratio and that is different than the first aspect ratio and the wrap package is scaled as necessary to fit into the overlay window when rendered.
