Abstract

A method for creating static and dynamic formats of an electronic newspaper, including importing data files containing newspaper content having a PDF or PNG format from a database, converting the imported data files to a HTML format, creating daily newspaper pages in an HTML format from the HTML converted data files using HTML daily page templates, presenting the created newspaper pages in the HTML format in an HTML environment through a web browser of a user interface device, converting the created newspaper pages in the HTML format to a PNG format, and presenting the created daily newspaper pages in the PNG format through the web browser of the user interface device as a static digital replica of a printed newspaper.

Claims

1. A method for creating static and dynamic formats of an electronic newspaper, comprising the steps of:

importing data files having a Portable Document Format (PDF) or Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format from a database, the data files containing newspaper content;

converting the imported data files to a HyperText Markup Language (HTML) format;

creating daily newspaper pages in an HTML format from the HTML converted data files using HTML daily page templates;

presenting the created daily newspaper pages in the HTML format in an HTML environment through a web browser of a user interface device, the created daily newspaper pages in the HTML format being interactive and updateable in real-time;

converting the created daily newspaper pages in the HTML format to a PNG format; and

presenting the created daily newspaper pages in the PNG format through the web browser of the user interface device as a static digital replica of a printed newspaper.

The method of claim 1, wherein the daily newspaper pages presented in the HTML format are created using the same HTML daily page templates as the daily newspaper pages presented in the PNG format, and wherein the daily newspaper pages presented in the HTML format are dynamic and the daily newspaper pages presented in the PNG format are static.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the created daily newspaper pages are presented as one of a single page, two-page reader spread with zoom, and full two-page spread.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein page advance arrows are presented with the created daily newspaper pages to navigate through the created daily newspaper pages in a sequential manner.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the created daily newspaper pages in the HTML format include an embedded advertisement configured to disappear from the user interface after a predetermined time period.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the HTML daily page templates comprise publication style sheets and layers, wherein one of the layers is dedicated to advertisements and interfaces with an advertisement layout system.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the HTML environment tracks navigation through the created daily newspaper pages and generates data tracking feedback.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the HTML environment enables mouse-following navigation through the created daily newspaper pages.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the data files include advertisements.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the HTML daily page templates comprise page layouts for linking articles, viewing articles assigned to the daily newspaper pages, associating articles with shapes on the daily newspaper pages, text editing, and multi-page story jumps.

11. A method for creating static and dynamic formats of an electronic newspaper, comprising the steps of:

importing data files having a Portable Document Format (PDF) or Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format from a database, the data files containing one or more of stories, articles and advertisements;

converting the imported data files to a HyperText Markup Language (HTML) format;

creating a newspaper in an HTML format from the HTML converted data files using HTML format page templates;

presenting the created newspaper in the HTML format in an HTML environment through a web browser of a remote user interface device, the created newspaper in the HTML format being interactive by a user of the remote user interface and updateable in real-time by a creator of the newspaper;

converting the created newspaper in the HTML format to a PNG format or PDF format; and

presenting the created newspaper in the PNG format or PDF format through the web browser of the user interface device as a static digital replica of a printed newspaper.

The method of claim 11, wherein the newspaper presented in the HTML format is created using the same HTML format page templates as the newspaper presented in the PNG format or PDF format, and wherein the newspaper presented in the HTML format is a dynamic version and the newspaper presented in the PNG format or PDF format is a static version.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the created newspaper presented in either one of the HTML format and the PNG or PDF formats are presented as any of a single page, two-page reader spread with zoom, and full two-page spread.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein page advance arrows are presented with the created newspaper to navigate through pages of the created newspaper in a sequential manner.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the created newspaper in the HTML format includes an embedded advertisement configured to disappear from the user interface after a predetermined time period.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the HTML format page templates comprise publication style sheets and layers, wherein one of the layers is dedicated to advertisements and interfaces with an advertisement layout system.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the HTML environment tracks navigation through the created newspaper and generates data tracking feedback.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein the HTML environment enables mouse-following navigation through the created newspaper.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein the HTML format page templates comprise page layouts for linking articles, viewing articles assigned to the newspaper, associating articles with shapes on a page, text editing, and multi-page story jumps.
