Abstract

A method is provided that enables dispatchers in power grid control centers to manage changes by applying multi-interval dispatch. A multi-stage resource scheduling engine and a comprehensive operating plan are used. Multiple system parameter scenarios are coordinated.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

applying, by a power grid device of a power grid comprising a processor that facilitates deployment of a comprehensive operating plan, an action defined by the comprehensive operating plan as a function of operating plan data, wherein the operating plan data represents the comprehensive operating plan to provide a multi-interval scheduling solution, based upon which operational resources of the power grid are allocated according to a schedule of the power grid to generate a supply of energy and dispatch the supply of energy by the power grid device; and

closing, by the power grid device, a first gap between a first schedule of day ahead scheduling that schedules a commitment of power grid resources for a day ahead of an identified day and a second schedule of a unit commitment plan, based upon which peak and valley demands of the power grid are managed.

The method of claim 1, further comprising closing, by the power grid device, a second gap between the first schedule of the day ahead scheduling or the second schedule of the unit commitment plan and a third schedule of an economic dispatch plan based upon which the power grid resources are deployed at different time periods.

The method of claim 1, further comprising implementing, by the power grid device, a data flow that facilitates, by the power grid device, the day ahead scheduling, wherein the data flow comprises a flow of data from an annual-to-month scheduling data store to a month-to-day scheduling data store to a day ahead scheduling data store.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, by the power grid device, the unit commitment plan based on a daily energy target and a daily energy production constraint.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising dispatching, by the power grid device, energy production units based on the first schedule.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the power grid resources comprise fast start resources that accelerate a dispatching of energy based on the day ahead scheduling as compared to default start resources.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein scheduling data associated with the first schedule is stored by a scheduling data store in accordance with the comprehensive operating plan.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, by the power grid device, the first schedule based on a forecast of the peak and valley energy demands of the power grid associated with the identified day.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising identifying, by the power grid device, whether the committed energy resources satisfy the peak and valley energy demands of the identified day in accordance with the first schedule.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the power grid resources comprise scheduling engines that facilitate a generation of energy by the power grid in accordance with the first schedule.

11. A system, comprising:

a power grid device of a power grid comprising a processor and configured to facilitate execution of executable components, the executable components comprising;

a management component that employs a management tool that facilitates a multi-level dispatch operation of power grid resources of the power grid;

a response component that responds to a demand for renewable resources including energy;

an application component that applies a multi-interval scheduling solution based upon which operational resources of the power grid are allocated, a supply of energy is generated, and the supply of energy is dispatched; and

a first bridging component that closes a first gap between a first schedule of day ahead scheduling that schedules a commitment of power grid resources for a day ahead of an identified day and a second schedule of an economic dispatch sequence plan that schedules a dispatch of the power grid resources at different time periods.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the executable components further comprise a generation component that generates scheduling data associated with the commitment of power grid resources, and wherein the scheduling data comprises resource megawatt schedule data, energy demand forecast data, scheduled outage data, energy transmission constraint schedule data, and energy reserve requirement schedule data.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the executable components further comprise a second bridging component that closes a second gap between the first schedule or the second schedule and a third schedule of a unit commitment plan, based upon which a peak and valley demand of the power grid is managed.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the third schedule is based on conditions comprising an energy load threshold of the power grid, an energy transmission constraint, an energy interchange activity, and an energy generation activity.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the executable components further comprise a loading component that loads operational parameter data representing energy ramp up or energy ramp down rates in connection with closing the first gap.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the executable components further comprise an update component that updates the commitment of power grid resources according to a frequency cycle to account for a volatile energy demand, an unpredictable resource commitment requirement, and a changing condition that impacts the supply of energy.

17. The system of claim 11, wherein the executable components further comprise an authentication component configured to authenticate access to the management tool based on verification of a role assigned to a management activity performed via the management tool and verification of authentication credentials using an authentication directory.

18. A power grid device of a power grid, comprising:

a memory storing executable components; and

a processor, communicatively coupled to the memory, that executes or facilitates execution of the executable components, the executable components, comprising;

a dispatch component configured to match a supply flow of energy from a renewable energy source to an energy demand of the power grid in accordance with an energy demand prediction model that forecasts the energy demand of the power grid during one or more scheduled time intervals; and

a first closing component configured to close a first gap between a first schedule of a unit commitment plan based upon which a set of peak and valley demands of the power grid are managed and a second schedule of an economic dispatch plan based upon which power grid resources are dispatched at different time periods.

19. The power grid device of claim 18, wherein the executable components further comprise a dispatch component that deploys the power grid resources based on the economic dispatch plan, time constraints associated with the supply flow of energy, and a scheduled number of start-up and shut-down activities corresponding to at least some of the power grid resources comprising a combustion engine and a steam unit of the power grid.

20. The power grid device of claim 18, wherein the executable components further comprise a second closing component configured to close a second gap between the first schedule or the second schedule and a third schedule of a day ahead scheduling that schedules a commitment of power grid resources for a day ahead of an identified day.
