Abstract

A traffic condition data providing method using a wireless communication device and a navigation device performing the method are disclosed. The navigation device includes travelling path displaying unit that searches a travelling path to a destination set by a user and displays the travelling path on map data, a traffic condition data receiving unit that receives traffic condition data from a content managing server through a wireless communication device in response to a request of providing the traffic condition data over the travelling path, and a traffic condition data providing unit that provides the user with the received traffic condition data.

18. A navigation device comprising:

a travelling path displaying unit that searches a travelling path to a destination set by a user and displays the travelling path and points of interest along the traveling path on map data;

a traffic condition data receiving unit that receives a first traffic condition data for the first point of interest and a second traffic condition data for the second point of interest through a wireless communication device in response to a request to provide a traffic condition data over the travelling path; and

a traffic condition data providing unit that provides the travelling path displaying unit with only traffic condition data for each of the points of interest along the traveling path.

19. The navigation device of claim 18, wherein the wireless communication device is a wireless communication terminal for engaging in near-field wireless communication with the navigation device.

20. The navigation device of claim 18, wherein the traffic condition data providing unit provides traffic condition data corresponding to first and second points of interest based at least in part on a user'"'"'s position and movement along the travelling path such that traffic condition data is displayed sequentially on the display unit.

21. The navigation device of claim 18, wherein the traffic condition data providing unit provides traffic condition data corresponding to first and second points of interest simultaneously.

22. The navigation device of claim 18, wherein the traffic condition data for one of the points of interest is a real-time image of traffic and the travelling path display unit displays the real-time image of traffic on the travelling path displaying unit for the one of the points of interest.

23. The navigation device of claim 18, wherein the traffic condition data for one of the points of interest is a message of a variable message sign at one of the points of interest and the travelling path display unit displays the message for the one of the points of interest.

28. The navigation device of claim 18, wherein the traffic condition data for a third point of interest is a message of a variable message sign at the third point of interest and the travelling path display unit displays the message for the third point of interest.

24. A navigation device comprising:

a travelling path displaying unit that searches a travelling path to a destination set by a user and displays the travelling path, a first point of interest along the traveling path, and a second point of interest along the travelling path on map data on map data;

a traffic condition data receiving unit that receives traffic condition data from a content managing server through a wireless communication device in response to a request to provide the traffic condition data over the travelling path; and

a traffic condition data providing unit that provides the travelling path displaying unit with only traffic condition data for points of interest along the traveling path including both a first real-time image of traffic at the first point of interest and a second real-time image of traffic at the second point of interest.

25. The navigation device of claim 24, wherein the wireless communication device is a wireless communication terminal for engaging in near-field wireless communication with the navigation device.

The navigation device of claim 24, wherein the traffic condition data providing unit provides traffic condition data corresponding to the first and second points of interest based at least in part on a user'"'"'s position and movement along the travelling path such that traffic condition data is displayed sequentially on the display unit.

27. The navigation device of claim 24, wherein the traffic condition data providing unit provides traffic condition data corresponding to first and second points of interest simultaneously.

29. A navigation device comprising:

a travelling path displaying unit that searches a travelling path to a destination set by a user and displays the travelling path, a first point of interest along the traveling path, and a second point of interest along the travelling path on map data on map data;

a traffic condition data receiving unit that receives traffic condition data from a content managing server through a wireless communication device in response to a request to provide the traffic condition data over the travelling path; and

a traffic condition data providing unit that provides the travelling path displaying unit with only traffic condition data for points of interest along the traveling path including both a first real-time image of traffic at the first point of interest and a message of a variable message sign at the second point of interest.

30. The navigation device of claim 29, wherein the wireless communication device is a wireless communication terminal for engaging in near-field wireless communication with the navigation device.

The navigation device of claim 29, wherein the traffic condition data providing unit provides traffic condition data corresponding to the first and second points of interest based at least in part on a user'"'"'s position and movement along the travelling path such that traffic condition data is displayed sequentially on the display unit.

32. The navigation device of claim 29, wherein the traffic condition data providing unit provides traffic condition data corresponding to first and second points of interest simultaneously.

33. A method of providing traffic condition data through a navigation device having a display, said method comprising:

searching a travelling path to a destination set by a user;

displaying the travelling path and points of interest along the travelling path, including a first point of interest along the traveling path, and a second point of interest along the travelling path, on map data, on the display;

receiving traffic condition data for only the points of interest along the travelling path from a content managing server through a wireless communication device in response to a request to provide the traffic condition data over the travelling path, wherein the traffic condition data includes traffic image data with a first real-time image of traffic at a first point of interest over the travelling path and a second real-time image of traffic at a second point of interest over the travelling path; and

providing both the first and second real-time images along with the travelling path on the display.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein the wireless communication device is a wireless communication terminal for engaging in near-field wireless communication with the navigation device.

35. The method of claim 33, wherein the receiving traffic condition data is based on at least in part on a user'"'"'s position and movement along the travelling path such that the first and second real-time images are displayed sequentially on the display unit.

36. The method of claim 33, wherein the receiving traffic condition data occurs simultaneously for the first and second real-time images.

37. A method of providing traffic condition data through a navigation device, said method comprising:

searching a travelling path to a destination set by a user;

displaying the travelling path and points of interest along the travelling path, including a first point of interest along the traveling path, and a second point of interest along the travelling path, on the display;

receiving traffic condition data from a content managing server for only the points of interest along the travelling path through a wireless communication device in response to a request to provide the traffic condition data over the travelling path, wherein the traffic condition data includes traffic image data with a real-time image of traffic at the first point of interest a real-time message of a variable message sign positioned at the second point of interest; and

providing the user with the received traffic condition data including a traffic image data, wherein the traffic image data comprises both the real-time image of traffic at the first point of interest over the traveling path and the real-time message of the variable message sign at the second point of interest,

wherein the content managing server provides traffic condition data associated with the map data based at least in part on a user'"'"'s position and movement along the travelling path.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein the wireless communication device is a wireless communication terminal for engaging in near-field wireless communication with the navigation device.
