A wearable hand hygiene compliance monitor to be worn by an attendant in a facility comprising a receiver for receiving dispensing signals from dispensers and/or zone signals from zone beacons stationed in the facility, and a controller configured for issuing hand hygiene prompting signals, and updating a hand hygiene status, upon receiving dispensing signals and/or zone signals, in accordance with an automated hand hygiene compliance protocol.
