Abstract

A method for coding a hose appliance with a fire-fighting device is provided. The method includes providing a codable hose appliance on the fire-fighting device, where the hose appliance includes a unique identifier. The method further includes sensing the unique identifier with a sensor associated with a portion of the fire-fighting device, and coding, using a control module communicatively coupled to the sensor, the hose appliance to the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to the sensor sensing the unique identifier. Coding the hose appliance to the portion of the fire-fighting device enables the hose appliance to control fluid flow from the fire-fighting device.

Claims

1. A method for coding a hose appliance with a fire-fighting device, said method comprising:

providing a codable hose appliance on the fire-fighting device, the hose appliance including a unique identifier;

sensing the unique identifier with a sensor associated with a portion of the fire-fighting device; and

coding, using a control module communicatively coupled to the sensor, the hose appliance to the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to the sensor sensing the unique identifier, wherein coding the hose appliance to the portion of the fire-fighting device enables the hose appliance to control fluid flow from the fire-fighting device.

A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein coding the hose appliance to the portion of the fire-fighting device further comprises coding the hose appliance to enable control of at least one of a fluid discharge and a discharge valve controller associated with the portion of the fire-fighting device.

A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the sensor is associated with at least one of a fluid discharge and a discharge valve controller, wherein coding the hose appliance further comprises coding the hose appliance to control at least one of the at least one fluid discharge and discharge valve controller in response to sensing the unique identifier with the sensor.

4. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein providing the codable hose appliance comprises providing the codable hose appliance including a unique identifier that includes at least one of a static address, a serial number, a radio-frequency identification tag, and a bar code.

5. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein sensing the unique identifier comprises sensing the unique identifier after the hose appliance is coupled to the portion of the fire-fighting device.

A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein providing the hose appliance comprises providing the hose appliance within a compartment of the fire-fighting device, wherein the compartment is associated with at least one of the sensor and the portion of the fire-fighting device, and wherein sensing the unique identifier comprises sensing the unique identifier when the hose appliance is deployed from the compartment of the fire-fighting device.

A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the control module is coupled to the hose appliance and includes a display module, said method further comprising selectively presenting, on the display module, a continuous fluid source indicator and a tank level indicator in response to the hose appliance being coupled to a continuous fluid source.

A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the control module is coupled to the hose appliance and includes a transceiver, said method further comprising transmitting, using the transceiver, data to the fire-fighting device, wherein the fire-fighting device adjusts operation of the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to the transmitted data.

9. A system for coding hose appliances with a fire-fighting device, said system comprising:

a codable hose appliance comprising a unique identifier;

a sensor associated with a portion of the fire-fighting device, said sensor configured to sense said unique identifier; and

a control module communicatively coupled to said sensor, said control module configured to code said hose appliance to the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to said sensor sensing said unique identifier, wherein said hose appliance is configured to control fluid flow from the fire-fighting device when said hose appliance is coded to the portion of the fire-fighting device.

A system in accordance with claim 9, wherein said sensor is associated with at least one of a fluid discharge and a discharge valve controller of the fire-fighting device, wherein said control module is further configured to code said hose appliance to at least one of said at least one discharge and discharge valve controller in response to said sensor sensing said unique identifier.

11. A system in accordance with claim 9, wherein said unique identifier comprises at least one of a static address, a serial number, a radio-frequency identification tag, and a bar code.

12. A system in accordance with claim 9, wherein said control module is coupled to said hose appliance.

13. A system in accordance with claim 9, wherein said hose appliance comprises a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and a body extending between said inlet and said outlet, wherein said control module is coupled to said body.

14. A system in accordance with claim 9, wherein said hose appliance is a nozzle.

A system in accordance with claim 9, wherein said control module comprises a transceiver configured to receive data from the fire-fighting device, said control module configured to determine whether said hose appliance is coupled to a continuous fluid source based on data received from the fire-fighting device, wherein said hose appliance further comprises a display module configured to selectively present a continuous fluid source indicator and a tank level indicator in response to said hose appliance being coupled to a continuous fluid source.

16. A method for coding a hose appliance with a fire-fighting device, said method comprising:

providing a codable hose appliance;

sensing, using a sensor, the hose appliance connecting to a portion of the fire-fighting device, wherein the sensor is associated with the portion of the fire-fighting device; and

coding, using a control module communicatively coupled to the sensor, the hose appliance to one of a fluid discharge, a logic address, a router, or a valve controller associated with the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to the sensor sensing the hose appliance connecting to the portion of the fire-fighting device, wherein coding the hose appliance enables the hose appliance to control fluid flow from the fire-fighting device.

17. A method in accordance with claim 16, wherein coding the hose appliance comprises coding the hose appliance to control operation of at least one of the fluid discharge and the valve controller associated with the portion of the fire-fighting device.

18. A method in accordance with claim 16, wherein coding the hose appliance comprises assigning a logic address to the hose appliance, the logic address associated with the portion of the fire-fighting device.

19. A method in accordance with claim 16, further comprising:

sensing the hose appliance disconnecting from a hose line associated with the portion of the fire-fighting device; and

uncoding the hose appliance from the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to sensing the hose appliance disconnecting from the hose line.

A method in accordance with claim 16, wherein the control module is coupled to the hose appliance and includes a transceiver, said method further comprising transmitting, using the transceiver, data to the fire-fighting device, wherein the fire-fighting device adjusts operation of the portion of the fire-fighting device in response to the transmitted data.
