2. An antenna device, comprising:

a dielectric substrate having a first surface and a second surface; a first conductive layer formed on the first surface of the dielectric substrate, the first conductive layer defining; a top ground region; a feed conductor; a matching slot stub defined by a first edge of the feed conductor; a connecting slot section defined by a second edge of the feed conductor opposite the first edge and defined by a first edge of the top ground region; a metal plate; a coupling gap separating the top ground from the metal plate; an antenna slot section defined in part by a second edge of the top ground region and defined by an edge of the metal plate; and a closed end conductively coupling the metal plate to the top ground, the closed end defining an edge of the antenna slot section; and a second conductive layer formed on the second surface of the dielectric substrate, the second conductive layer including a bottom ground; wherein the first conductive layer and the dielectric substrate form a composite right and left handed (CRLH) metamaterial structure. - View Dependent Claims (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
