Abstract

An electrical buss has a carrier and at least a pair of electrically conductive elements. The at least a pair of electrically conductive elements extend linearly along a length of the carrier and at least a portion of each of the least a pair of electrically conductive elements is exposed at a surface of the carrier. A connector is releasably couplable to the electrical buss adjacent to the surface of the carrier. The connector has at least a pair of electrically conductive contacts for engaging with the electrically conductive elements at any desired location along the length of the carrier.

25. A device for use with an electrical buss comprising a carrier, at least a pair of electrically conductive elements linearly arranged along the carrier, and a linearly arranged ferromagnetic element carried by the carrier intermediate the at least a pair of electrically conductive elements, the device comprising:

a housing adapted to be releasably couplable to the carrier in a plurality of orientations relative to the carrier;

a plurality of electrically conductive contacts carried by the housing wherein the plurality of electrically conductive contacts are arranged such that at least a first one of the plurality of electrically conductive contacts will engage a one of the at least a pair electrically conductive contacts and at least a second one of the plurality of electrically conductive contacts will engage a different one of the at least a pair of electrically conductive contacts when the housing is releasably coupled to the carrier in each of the plurality of orientations relative to the carrier; and

at least one magnet carried by the housing and disposed intermediate the plurality of electrically conductive contacts wherein the at least one magnet is arranged to generate a magnetic field to magnetically cooperate with the ferromagnetic element of the carrier to releasably couple the housing upon the carrier in at least each of the plurality of orientations relative to the carrier.

26. The device as recited in claim 25, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive elements comprises at least three electrically conductive elements and wherein the at least three electrically conductive elements are concentrically arranged.

27. The device as recited in claim 25, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive elements are arranged to permit the housing to be rotatable over 360 degrees into each of the plurality of orientations over relative to the carrier.

28. The device as recited in claim 25, wherein the at least one magnet is adapted to engage with and receive at least one of a data signal and a power signal from the ferromagnetic element.

29. The device as recited in claim 25, wherein the housing further comprises a pair of forks arranged for insertion into an AC power outlet and wherein the forks are coupled to a circuit for converting AC power to low voltage DC power.

30. The device as recited in claim 29, wherein the housing comprises a low voltage DC power port coupled to the circuit for converting AC power to low voltage DC power.

The device as recited in claim 25, wherein the housing comprises a first portion and a second portion, the first portion carries the plurality of electrically conductive contacts, the second portion is electrically coupled to the plurality of electrically conductive contacts, and the second portion is rotatable over 360 degrees relative to the first portion.

32. The device as recited in claim 31, wherein the first portion is rotatably attached to the second portion.

33. The device as recited in claim 31, wherein the first portion is releasably attachable to the second portion.

The device as recited in claim 31, wherein the second portion of the housing comprises a port for providing at least one of a power signal and a data signal to a further device couplable to the port, wherein the at least one of the power signal and the data signal is obtained from at least one of the at least a pair of electrically conductive elements via at least one of the plurality of electrically conductive contacts.

The device as recited in claim 31, wherein at least the first portion comprises a pair of forks arranged for insertion into an AC power outlet, the forks are coupled to a circuit for converting AC power to low voltage DC power, and at least one of the first portion and the second portion comprises a low voltage DC power port coupled to the circuit for converting AC power to low voltage DC power.

The device as recited in claim 25, wherein the housing is keyed relative to the carrier to maintain the plurality of electrical contacts in spaced relation relative to the at least a pair of electrically conductive elements when the housing fails to be positioned in a one of the plurality of orientations relative to the carrier.

The device as recited in claim 36, wherein the keying feature comprises at least one surface extending from the housing which is arranged to engage at least one surface of the carrier to thereby maintain the plurality of electrical contacts in spaced relation relative to the at least a pair of electrically conductive elements when the housing fails to be positioned in a one of the plurality of orientations relative to the carrier.

The device as recited in claim 31, wherein the first portion is keyed relative to the carrier to maintain the plurality of electrical contacts in spaced relation relative to the at least a pair of electrically conductive elements when the housing fails to be positioned in a one of the plurality of orientations relative to the carrier.

The device as recited in claim 38, wherein the keying feature comprises at least one surface extending from the first portion which is arranged to engage at least one surface of the carrier to thereby maintain the plurality of electrical contacts in spaced relation relative to the at least a pair of electrically conductive elements when the housing fails to be positioned in a one of the plurality of orientations relative to the carrier.
