Abstract

A method and apparatus for performing device-to-device (D2D) discovery in a wireless communication system is provided. A first user equipment (UE), which supports proximity services (ProSe), transmits a request of D2D discovery to a network, and receives information on a second UE, which supports the ProSe and is located in proximity of the first UE, and information on D2D discovery signaling. The first UE performs D2D discovery based on the received information on the second UE and information on D2D discovery signaling.

Claims

1. A method for performing, by a first user equipment (UE) which supports proximity services (ProSe), device-to-device (D2D) discovery in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting a request of D2D discovery to a network;

receiving information on a second UE, which supports the ProSe and is located in proximity of the first UE, and information on D2D discovery signaling; and

performing D2D discovery based on the received information on the second UE and information on D2D discovery signaling.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the request of D2D discovery is transmitted if connection establishment for D2D is configured, if the first UE is in coverage of a cell, and if the first UE is in an idle mode.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the request of D2D discovery is transmitted via an RRC connection request message or an RRC connection setup complete message.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the request of D2D discovery is included in establishment cause in the RRC connection request message or the RRC connection setup complete message.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting at least one of an identity (ID) of the second UE or a ProSe ID of the second UE, to the network.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the information on the second UE includes an ID of the second UE, a ProSe ID of the second UE, a sequence or a code used by the second UE, or proximity information of the second UE.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the information on the D2D discovery signaling includes information on radio resources used for the D2D discovery signaling.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the information on the second UE and the information on the D2D discovery signaling is received via an RRC connection setup message or an RRC connection reject message.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request for D2D discovery from the network via a paging message.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the paging message includes at least one of an ID of the first UE, a ProSe ID of the first UE, or an ID of the second UE.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request for D2D discovery from an upper layer of the first UE.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting an RRC connection setup complete message which indicates D2D discovery to the network.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the RRC connection setup complete message includes a ProSe ID of the first UE and the second UE.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein performing the D2D discovery comprises:

transmitting a D2D discovery signal to the second UE based on based on the received information on the second UE and information on D2D discovery signaling; and

receiving a D2D discovery signal from the second UE.

15. A first user equipment (UE) which supports proximity services (ProSe) in a wireless communication system, the first UE comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) unit for transmitting or receiving a radio signal; and

a processor coupled to the RF unit, and configured to;

transmit a request of D2D discovery to a network;

receive information on a second UE, which supports the ProSe and is located in proximity of the first UE, and information on D2D discovery signaling; and

perform D2D discovery based on the received information on the second UE and information on D2D discovery signaling.
